Trying to talk with a fish and wildlife officer
Hey guys, ive been trying to get ahold of a fish and wildlife officer for over a week to no avail. I thought i remembered that we had a section on here once that you could message them directly. Does someone know a way that i can get in contact with them?
Thanks

they are GoA employees ... therefore write an email stating your claim and the individual and address it to your MLA the ombudsman, and intergovernmental affairs - should have a response within 4 - 12 hours .. copy the Premier as well for giggles

I honestly either go down to an office near you, or go fish a busy spot and wait for an officer to come check you then you can ask him. Tried calling, they don't return calls and I've tried emails and they down't answer them either aside from the auto generated response saying they received it and will be in touch.

What do you need to know? Any question from gum drops to aero science can be easily answered in the general section.

True... but any question on fishing generally only gets you "Go check you're regs."

Based on my last conversation with a F&W officer, you may be underwhelmed.

The question is if i can legally bowfish lake whitefish. From what i can see it is legal because the lake im looking at is not listed on the no bowfishing/spearfishing lakes. And also lake whitefish are not listed in the section of what i cant shoot. But also the legality of shooting a bow while on a boat or potentially near other people while on the lake.
Its pretty unusual so i want to make sure im clean with the regulations as well as any sort of shooting a bow law.
What i want is an answer from a fish officer so if i get hasseled or called in by people i have done my due dilligence and not get some enormous fine.

They are probably too busy right now, giving out fines to atv-ers and such. You know, not registered, no helmet and stuff.
Was out last winter and one was only checking sleds-ers and quad-ers. LOL.
I was beside a sled-er and side by side, and he didn't bother checking on me but checked the sled-er and side by side.
Talk about money grabbers. Just like the police now a days with photo radar and red light cams.

you have answered your own question, and are good to go but if you call your local enforcement officer, you will get his/her opinion on the legality.

Ok I need a bow and arrow...got that! And a lake with whitefish in it...understood.
I’ve bowfished for carp in Montana, bowfished for several species of fish is South Africa and did well, bowfished for sharks in Australia. I know a bit about bowfishing and if someone asked me for some info I would help them out.
I don’t fish for whitefish and so I don’t know squat about how or when to find them close to the surface. So if anyone is interested in a
Conversation about bowfishing for them feel free to PM me apparently simple questions get simpleton answers in the fishing forum
If you’re interested in bowfishing sharks pm me. I wouldn’t say you need a bow and an ocean ...you’ll get real answers.

We used to do it at Wabamun back in the day. Lots of schools of whitefish. They swam pretty fast so you had to snap shoot. Best set up I found was my longbow and a shoot through reel ( been trying to find another one for years
). Trad gear works the best.
A clear lake like Sylvan would be ideal. October would be the best month. Find them shallow and don't have to dodge around the redneck regatta.

Thanks for the info, I’d like to try that sometime. You should look at the AMS retriever reels they make resetting fast if you miss.

Mine screws into the inserts in my old recurve. You could get a takedown recurve for pretty cheap on eBay etc. Yo could also make a bracket to screw into and tape the bracket to the bow, I’m sure that would work.
They actually make bowfishing compounds for folks who aren’t used to recurves. They don’t have a let off though just shaped and strung like a compound as far as I know.
