Sharptail Hunting
I joined this forum about a month ago and have really enjoyed reading everyones hunting success stories, well today I get to post my first success story on this forum.
My Dad and I and our 2 wirehairs headed out for some sharptail hunting this morning. We had heard that the upland hunting was pretty slow this year and we witnessed the slow hunting first hand with our trip to wainwright in September.
Well today we were lucky, walked about 1/4 mile from the truck, Dad shot a Hun, walked another 200 yards I took 3 shots with the wingmaster, 3 shaptails, the dogs found both groups. As we carried on I took Kate (the experienced dog) Dad took Tess (the Rookie) I got my limit in about an hour, Kate found all the birds and held them until I was in position, she is an amazing dog!! Dad got another hun and 3 more sharptails, Tess pointed on all of them, not bad for a Rookie. All in all it was a great hunt, weather was great, dogs worked Amazing, and we were on our way home by noon!!
I will post pics soon!!

Great photos and memories, nothing like hunting over good pointing dogs. I am dreaming of a hunt like that!

You did a lot better than we did. Logged 7 hours and about 10 miles on the boots. Saw a pair, covey of 12, another single and then a group of 3. All flushed wild, unfortunately for the single he turned to catch the wind and crossed beside me. Other than that none of them gave the dogs nor us any chance at work.
