Just drove past Jackfish and Mink Lake, they are both freshly iced over. Didn’t go check the thickness as the ice cover is new. Coming along nicely though!

The main lake at Newell is still open, but there were actually people ice fishing at the mouth of Rainier Bay this morning... Late last week Greenwald Bay only had an inch at most of ice over it.

I can not figure out, for the life of me, how to access that water body...I've driven by it a couple times and don't see any kind of a boat launch or other access point. I don't wanna start a whole "thing" on here, but if someone was kind enough and wanted to PM me how you get on there (I'm full CnR fishing - no keepers!) I'd be eternally grateful!

It has been pretty warm in Jasper. Haven’t seen any of the lakes outside of the park, but Talbot was open as of this past Monday.

Hopefully we dont get the heaps of snow they are projecting to insulate the thin layer of ice we do have. Bad start for the ice if it goes like that.
Everyone be safe!!!

Heavy snow early on in the season has little impact as the thin layer of ice cannot support any weight and thus the snow just sinks into the water. Once there is 6" or more of ice thickness heavy snow then becomes a problem. The big lakes up north didn't even have shoreline ice as of last weekend. Not too concerned just yet.
I echo your thoughts, everyone be safe!

There is no boat launch and if you drove by you had to have seen the turn off and a large parking area. Nice for a day outing but like Chestemere all smalls very hard to catch a legal.
