Gross 188 7/8
Net 185 4/8
I got drawn in a zone I had never been to and I only had a couple of days to hunt. I wanted to take a prairie buck, as I has i have taken a few 170s archery bucks in more farm land.
I went down in August and archery season to get permission but I wasn't allowed to enter the pasture until Nov 1 and the cattle was off.
Long story short, my dad came down with me and we hiked back into a big pfra pasture. We got a couple miles away from the roads and started to see does. I said to my dad, "with this many does around there has to be a buck somewhere" as we came around the next hill and this buck was bedded along the creek bed. I crawled to the top of the hill and ranged him 380 - too far for me. We did a big stock and got to 200 yards of where he should be. Shortly after he walked up out of the creek bed and I hammered him.
We had to cross the creek a couple times and pack him out, so it was a great time with my father and to top it off I shot him with my grandfathers rifle. This was the first morning of my hunt and it was the first buck I had seen. I didn't really know what I had until I got home and put a tape on him

Nice. I'm pretty sure I shot his twin this fall (except a province away). Identical deer except a bit of junk around his brows and another three inches on the tape because of it

According to you shooting 6 whitetail over 150” is as easy as shooting a p&Y animal with a rifle...still waiting to see pictures of these Easy bucks you have shot.

150” buck is a good deer and even better when you got 6 of them that size and bigger.

150” isn’t anything special
I’ve found most of deer of that class are young ones with lots of potential. So I’d rather eat tag soup, instead of shooting a young deer with good genetics.

150” is a nice deer and the oldest buck I’ve ever shot was a 150” deer that had 3 teeth left in his head..however I agree that a lot of 150” deer aren’t prime but far from most of them and with that said my 6 biggest whitetail all score over 170”.

When I hear a guy saying that he’s shot 6 170” whitetails I automatically think
A) he’s hunting a good area, must own lots of land or have good permission
Big deer don’t grow on trees
B) also have to be a good shot and quick on the draw. Time is critical
C) your willing to bend the rules to get a big deer
I could be wrong, but that’s come to my mind.
If seen a lot of big deer hit the ground, and I’ve seen a lot of big deer get away
I’ve got A, B had gotten better, but enough of C for 6 170” whitetails for me

Come on man. Why on earth would you suggest poaching when you likely have no knowledge of this man or his deer. Think whatever you like, but do not post this trash.
The better response (if you do indeed want to turn this into a p@@ing match) would be to kindly ask for pics of his deer, and reciprocate by posting your own.
And quit behaving like my 3-year old!

Well in fact you are very wrong about C) as I’m an ethical hunter and have always respected wildlife and the land that I hunt on.For you to even suggest that I have shot my best bucks by breaking the law is absurd.

Guessing he is not suggesting you poached. The old saying goes “1 booner, lucky. 2 booners yer a poacher.”
Thats how I read it.
But man, if you have 6 170+ whitetails you are the man.
Bravo. I am jealous.

The only guys I know with a wall of Booners are or either:
1. Bachelors
2. Still live with their mom
3. Are divorced
4. Independently wealthy
5. Are very fortunate to have a wife or life partner that shares their passion.
Most of us that work normal jobs, with happy wives & families will be lucky to find the time to get one or two Booners in this lifetime.
It is my experience that hunting is very similar to fishing in that, 10% of hunters shoot 90% of the biggest deer.

The mule deer at the top of page three is what they say he is score wise.
That’s a accurate score. Guided mule deer for 10 years and that would be a shooter all day. The score is correct Kurt. You might want to stretch your tape out a bit I’ve noticed

what deer are you referring to? If you are referring to the 4x4 on the top of this page then you haven’t a clue how to score a mule deer

Easy, easy......
I wasn’t referring to tbrowns mule deer, I was generalizing, but since you brought it up, I actually won a prize package from Cody Robins on Live to Hunt when they had a contest to score a set of mule deer sheds featured on their show.
I wouldn’t be talking about stretching a tape if I were you, I saw your 179” buck...... I have the score sheet from mine, would love to see the score sheet on yours lol.

i never said it was mine? It is a good friend of mines but I was there at white wolf taxidermy when it was scored. Yours is a nice deer, just seems a bit high. Maybe I’m missing something on it. My apologies. Thought you were talking about the mule buck at the top

I love back straps, tenderloins, and sausage. Shooting a "big" deer is a bonus. I have several large racks on the wall but when a buddy is over having a rye or rum, then the deer is measured by the story of the harvest, not by the inch of the antler.

Pretty sad what goes on in threads like these. Nothing but congrats to those who have posted some beauty animals but just remember it's a big ol world out there. Someones always shot something bigger. Most important thing is to be happy with your own hunt.

I will be honest, the scores I posted earlier were rough. I rescored it very honestly (in my mind) and I ended up with a gross 185 4/8 and a net 181 0/8.
The pictures don't really do him justice, he carries more mass than it looks like in the photos. For reference his g2 are 17 inches.
I'm hoping to get him officially scored in the near future.
Either way, he is my best mule deer and i am very happy with him. It took me less than a half a second to decide he was a shooter. Honestly, I normally could care less what the tape reads. But, i do want to know if he actually makes Boone and Crocket or not. A 1/8 here, a deduction there, it doesn't take long to turn a 185 buck into a 175. Or the other way around
Just waiting for the CWD results, I am getting the itch to make some sausage!

I would be surprised if he didn’t make book.
I can’t believe it takes so long to get the results back, good luck on your sausage!
