Cold Lake Shore Fishing
Hello,
Taking a trip to Cold Lake to see my brother this weekend, wondering if anyone has had any luck shore fishing other than at the marina, would prefer a place a bit less crowded.
I was thinking maybe the Provincial Park if there are any good locations there?
Or any other places you recommend.
Thank you

well that's a bit tuff but have had success throwing lures along the shoreline at French bay and at English bay but that only amounted to jacks...there are a few walking trails at the provincial park that you can get down to the water but the trees pretty much are right to the edge and large boulders on the shore makes it kinda tuff....the jacks are there though.

You could try the west side of the lake at the medley river. I’ve had success there for Jacks as well. Seen a few nice ones on the river side. They also stock that little river with rainbows.

Medley gets fished out the week the trout get stocked. Emphasizing “Put & Take” I might suggest.
Shore fishing is extremely limited. Guys fish off the marina and catch the odd Pike.

Is the creek fenced so they can not swim out ,or get eaten by the pike and lakers I am just wondering if these fishermen know the difference of a lake trout and a rainbow.

The stockers are sterile and are stocked a ways upstream from the lake. There would be many beaver dams, otters, birds, anglers, to get past in order to the lake than if they made it that far the pike, walleye, lakers, burbot would be waiting for them. They have been stocking rainbows in the river for decades and I have never heard of anyone catching one or seeing one in the lake. Triploids also have a relatively short life.
If a person is fishing and they do not know the difference between a Lake Trout and a Rainbow Trout probably best that they stay home.

Yep SRD. You can find it on the stocking reports. Not many fish out in the river, so I’m not sure why they even stock it. I have tried a few different spots with my fly rod with no success.
