Rio Elite Grand vs the old Rio Grand
Has anybody had a chance to try this yet? Worth the extra $$ over the old line?

NO,
Rio lines are currently junk. Anyone I know who uses Rios current line of lines only gets weeks out of the lines, they have a major issue the line breaks off and leaves the core exposed. The change in the lines diameter causes it to hang up in guides, it twists on the core making tangles and the lines suck up water.
I've had several, yes several lines fall apart this season... all Rios
Avoid Rio lines like the Covid right now

I remember when I first got into Fly Fishing about 15-20 years ago, all I would use was RIO. But I agree, lately, their product has really slipped in quality. The last few lines I bought from RIO were starting to split, or bunch up, or just fall apart completely within a few months of typical use. I have since switched to Scientific Anglers and I don't think I'll go back to RIO anytime soon.

Have been fishing a few of the the Rio lines with no problems after 2 years. Technical Trout & Intouch Midge have been good. I do dress all my lines on a regular basis afer every trip or two though.
Mind you one of my favorite lines is stil the 444 Peach.

Airflo are honestly so hard to beat. They’re so durable and function the same as any other PVC line. I have no complaints. Even the lines they manufacture for other companies (i.e. Loop) are really good. Give them a try over rio, because like many have said, my rio experience has been that of falling apart lines. Especially in the last 7-5 years. Not worth it anymore, although they have great tapers. Airflo all the way baby

Thanks for the feedback guys! I have enjoyed Rio’s pike line on my 9wt but maybe time to try something new. What would be some good airflo or scientific angler lines for streamers and nymph rigs?
Full disclosure, they would be fished on a 6wt Aetos until I can upgrade

I had the exact opposite experience with Loop lines. Floating lines that did not float! I had older Rio lines that were great (can't comment on their newer lines), but pretty much exclusively use SA lines now on my trout reels, except for a few salt lines and Some (amazing) Snowbee lines I use for Pike.

I haven't had any problems with Rio lines and I have plenty of them. Airflow seems OK. Cortland?...meh.

Rio lines are fine, been using the Gold for the past 6 years and an OBS for about the same. I do prefer Airflo but Rio is still an excellent line.
