antique lure restoration?

I have several old lures that I received from my father many years ago. I have spoons, crankbaits and other lures that where purchased probably in the early 1960s.

I would like to polish up some of the spoons and use them. MY question is what's the best way to polish them up?

Any other antique fishing equipment stories are welcome.

Car wax on the painted surfaces unless they are really faded. Brasso polish on the metal side of the spoons. Clear nail polish may work as a clear coat depending on how the lure was painted so try a test spot first. Back in the 60's they used a lot of lacquer based paints that dont react well to the newer solvent based paints of today.

A good tough clear coat for both metal and hard baits is KBS diamond coat. If you apply multiple coats it will out last the clear coats used by most big lure companies. It’s an automotive clear coat often used for rims.
