Working on it! trying to figure out what I want to run as there is a lot of options for saddles, platforms, sticks etc. Wish there was more distributors in Canada

I moved away from it when I stopped stand hunting public, now on my private I have mounts on all the trees I like and move my stands from tree to tree. When I used my saddle a lot I was using it for white tails on public, learned a lot from the hunting public on how they run it. Not a whole lot of Canadian info on it.

I mostly still hunt, but have been considering picking one up. Sometimes I know I'm in a great spot or there's a scrape I would like to sit on for a few hours and with a saddle I could just have it in my pack and make a impromptu sit but be off the ground.
The only thing holding me back is the initial cost.

I’m interested in trying it for early season, there’s a couple of elk spots I like but I don’t always get permission on that ranch. I’m wondering if there’s some way to get into it without spending a load of cash. I’m hoping someone in Calgary has one and I can take a look at it, try a short sit etc.

Made my own. Cost me about 35$for saddle and rigging+45$for the climbing harness( safety belt). seriously comfortable light and mobile. I fabed up a self climbing system so I don't even pack climbing sticks or pegs.

I’m thin’ing of going that route, I sew quite a bit to make my gear
How did you handle the seat/sling is it like a bosuns chair or more of the diaper idea? Where did you source the material? And finally... do you want to share your climbing technique? There a guy on YouTube who uses 2 cinches around the tree one for one foot and one for behind the other knee. It looks pretty slick.

I used a seat belt strap sewn onto fabric sourced at the local fabric shop. I made it similar to a sit drag but opened it up across the back more for better lower back support. I run an arborist harness under it for safety. My tethers are climbing rope with prusik knots for adjustability. My foot rest is a dowl also on an independent strap which allows me to self climb similar to a self climber stand. I mocked up a few prototypes with webbing to get the fit/ bridge just right.

Thanks! I’ve seen the dowel idea on YouTube, I thought it was pretty slick.

Never hunted saddles after the first one I shot was way too chewy.

are you talking horse saddles for horse back hunting??? or tree stand saddles???
PERSONALLY IF I WERE TO BE SHOPPING FOR A SADDLE FOR HUNTING WITH
comfort and durability are most important for you and the nag you are riding
id get what they call an association saddle with a rough out seat with swells to hook yer knees in to stay in center and in place up and down steep inclines
longer heavier tie down tassels , heavy stronger work type horn for dragging brush / trees or dragging downed game
I'd get one custom built
along with a rifle scabbard and archery scabbard, and saddle bags to match the fit of the saddle
even if I was doing trail riding in the high country mountains
that's the model of saddle id go with
roping saddles are really not comfortable on long days after days in the saddle
they are built to get out of quickly in a rodeo roping situation
western pleasure saddles are not strong enough
that my 2 bits worth of opinion on the sitsation
