You got me support they are definitely out of hand and need a culling. I’ve caught more wounded fish in the last five years then the previous 20. I might be still upset from the sea loin that stoled three salmon right at the boat this year.

Next weekly bump...
We pulled out all of the stops when it came to quality for these. In fact at the price point of them, there is virtually no "profit margin" after the costs of production and handling are addressed. Several on other Forums have noted the quality in their posts after they received their orders.
Cheers

Only a small fraction learned to target anglers. It would be nice to see them eliminated.
The ones that stage in rivers and catch salmon stuck trying to spawn. They should all be removed.
The rest… sea lions can’t catch wild Chinook. I saw one eating a pink. Not sure if they are fast enough to catch any salmon.
Still… numbers are high. Either cull or stock great whites and transient orcas.

Entirely erroneous assumption.
There have been a great many scientific studies that well prove their capabilities in capturing salmonids of every species, with a noted preference for chinook and coho.

Can you post the study that shows sealions can catch chinooks in non human changed environments like below dams?
I believe you… however I would like to read it.

PM me your email. The studies are numerous.
In some you will of course have to infer that they are predating salmon effectively, but given the numbers (huge) that would be a salient inference.

Wolves of the Ocean, cull them and shut down, or limit the native fishery using nets on the rivers. The fishery is a resource that once lost may never fully recover.Human greed and poorly placed sentiment for the predators will eventually make it not worth fishing for Salmon of any species.
At one time there was a commercial Atlantic Salmon fishery in Europe. Its now gone. The only Atlantic Salmon you can buy is a sickly farmed fish.

There's no such thing as sustainable salmon, and it doesn't matter if we wipe out the lions.
We are the lions and there aren't enough salmon for us.

No accounting for the lack of education and knowledge of some people.
Read the data from UofV and UBC studies.
Any updates. Did any culls occur?

A decent handful. Quietly of course.
Now however we find ourselves in a bit of a battle...
We are facing an extremely critical pinch point right now.
The vast majority of last year's spawn (both steel and salmon) was destroyed by the floods and related scouring last fall. The few that will swim out of the gravel and head to sea face a WALL of predators. With their reduced numbers, they will be in even graver danger than ever before. More than a few scientists fear this could actually wipe out this year's age class for the species involved in many areas. That would signal the beginning of the end for both. And that will have, as you've noted, hugely undesirable negative ramifications for the ecosystem as a whole.
But... The Minister directly refuses to discuss the matter (repeatedly) and refuses to engage with the science and those in support (despite pointed registered letters from the same). DFO Vancouver is less than useless, and continues to through up nonsensical barricades at every juncture. It appears they are quite willing to let this impending catastrophe occur while they sit on their laurels.
We are in it for the long haul, and fighting this nonsense as hard as we are able.
Cheers,
Nog

it is just sad with all the media about global warming and save the planet that those in power and supposed to be responsible do nothing.
