Access was good on the north end. Very little flood water and a decent road heading out on west side of the island. No road over there yet according to the CO's we seen yesterday.

New heeve formed.
New heeve formed rr420 on the northwest side of the lake. Made getting off last night difficult in a snow storm, lots of flood water on the north side. Got on Friday side was perfect no heeve or sign one was gonna form. Apparently it formed Saturday afternoon. When we came upon it there was still some fresh ice on top with no snow cover so I assume it was still forming.

Schedule filled up for the month so it looks like tomorrow will be my last chance to make it out for a laker chase.
What's the ice depth looking like? Will an extension be needed on the auger?
And how has the trout activity been? Are they getting over the February blues and chasing up column or should I be stocking up on herring and rigging up dead sticks tonight?

Okay thanks for the info. Will definitely bring the sled and shovel. If the trout don't want to play ball I can always go shallow for pike and hope for a burbot. Has anyone been consistently getting burbot or the occasional incidental one?

Well it looks like you got things covered right there now you got to mark them and sit on them and see if you can entice them to bite!
Remember if they are not interested sometimes pulling up and relocating on a bunch that are active can make for a better day.
Herring on the bottom at all locations cuz ya never know.
If you get chasers and no takers switch to see if something a bit bigger, or smaller with aggressive or less aggressive presentation is what they want.
It’s always nice when they are interested right away cuz it can get a bit frustrating trying to figure them out and your burning day light but better then being at work!
Good luck and let us know how ya made out.

People are still getting around in trucks etc on the packed trails but some have drifted in.
The thing that you gotta take into consideration this time of the year is the mid day temps that can turn the surface snow into a slushy mess which is minimum 2 feet sitting on the ice now toss in a drifted in area and your gonna be in a pickle real quick!
I have now gone to the quad only for the rest of the season as it’s easier to dig out and a lot less chance of getting stuck too!
Can’t wait for the new skidoo for next season.

Well it was a nice sunny day on the lake. Ended up landing 8 lakers between 7:30 and 3:00. 3 chased up the water column aggressively but the rest would only bite small, slow presentations a foot or 2 off bottom. Fished a drop-off between 30 and 110 feet. Marked a ton of fish in the deeper water but had most action mid-drop. No luck on spoons, 1 on a tube jig, the rest bit a jig and smelt or jig and white powerbait.
Decided to go shallow for pike in the afternoon and ended up catching 6 in less than a foot of water.
All in all a great day on the lake!
Snow was 1.5 to 2 feet deep and pretty hard crusted so I wouldn't be taking a quad or vehicle off the beaten path. Snowmobile had no trouble though

Sounds like a good trip.
Heading out tomorrow solo with the quad will report back on the outing!
Gonna run and gun the day away unless I hit a honey hole!

The bite was awesome the last weekend. Took a couple friends out and ended up on some fish that wanted to chase and we ended up with 3 overs out of 15 fish. Was nice to see some stable weather systems and the fish responded well to it. Tight lines to everyone heading out this weekend!

The one dayer was a blast. We had a good time. We didn’t catch any overs but we iced 11 and lost 5. Six of the eleven were chasers. The rest we caught on the FishPro dead sticking with anchovies laying right on bottom. Access was good . We fished the marina at 81.4 feet . Thanks for all the help everyone.

Hi Hartly, glad you had a good day at Cold Lake. I’ve never fished there before. Can you drive straight out from the marina and fish right there? I’ve been to Cold Lake playing hockey, just never fished it. Thanks.

Yes you can drive right out on the ice from the marina.
There is a gypsy fishing village set up
(Ice shacks) and anywhere around that area is producing fish.
Good luck

Banging my skull plate off the dash board....freaking wind....March madness is not supposed to be winds blowing 60 clicks and then changing direction as the day goes on
Might need to buy or make a ice shanty for next season

Heading up in a few more days, has the snow been knocked down at all? Taking the quads but not sure if they will do any good or not. Even if we have to walk on who cares time to fish lol.

Yeah it was brutal out there today. Fourteen hours and only two hits and nothing landed. Moved around a lot. Fished any where from 40 feet to 120 feet. Fished the Marina , Provincial park side , Birch point, and French bay. Is it me? Or has it been a tough ice fishing season on good ol Cold Lake ?
