Default Ford Escape Hybrid advice

anyone have any experience with the new 21/22 Ford Escape Hybrid?
need to upgrade our commuter, its a good highway commute into Calgary and back to Gods country
the hybrid has the electric engine option or the plug in option. Plug in has a 60km range on electric and then the gas kicks in.
The alternate is a non plug, and the electric charges as you brake... they both have stellar gas mileage, the unfortunate part of the plug in is its only available in FWD, no AWD available
looking for thoughts, advice or experience
(our work commute is about 60k)

If I lived in a city I would have an electric or hybrid.
For highway use there is no point imo.

I'd seriously consider the RAV4 hybrid. That is on my short list for commuter replacement. Similar price, much better product, if your ok with utilitarian.

I would order one and wait the 7 months. If you really want to try the Ford, lease one for a year, you will be VERY happy when your RAV shows up to replace it.

Default Rav 4

I know someone that has a RAV4 Prime, it's a pretty slick package.

I have been looking at the Ford Maverick . It appears the hybrid has better economy in town where the straight gas engine is more economical on the hwy.

Default Maverick

Know a guy down in the States that got a base Maverick 6 months ago for work, so far he loves it. (November, so 5 and a half ish months)

Went from an older Tacoma, smaller, still does the job but way better fuel economy

Have you actually got eyes on one at a dealer yet?

No I decided to back away from it right now. I don’t need a vehicle and there is no deals to be had these days. Strictly a sellers market. I can put a lot gas in my current GMC for 45g

On top of that I can get more truck from the Ford Ranger for close to the same money and very similar fuel economy for the 4x4

The hybrid benefit comes from driving around town, stop and go traffic. At highway speeds a hybrid utilizes the gas motor, not the electric. Our hybrid is actually worse on highway than around town unless we keep it at 100k or so, but at 110-125, its slightly worse.

Unexpectedly we are now in the market for a vehicle after my wife's Nissan Rogue was written off as the result of a collision two weeks ago. Thankfully the injuries were minor soft tissue thanks to the air bags, seatbelts and headrests.

We too are looking at hybrid SUV/Crossovers and may even lease/buy a new vehicle after checking the crazy used market . She commutes about 40k per day for work and usually heads to Olds from St Albert every second weekend to visit her folks.

Currently on our search list are Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, Toyota Rav4, Ford Escape and whatever else we can find. I have been educating myself on the various hybrid solutions and most likely will stay away from the plug in models.

Any rantless AO insight/experience appreciated either by thread posts or PM.

If you're considering the CX-5, I've read the CX-50 is similar to the CX-5 albeit with different packaging. Being fairly new, they may be hard to find though if it's something that interests you.
