Default 7mm rem mag moose load

I just acquired a 7mm rem mag and I'm thinking about drawing for moose this year. Does anyone have a favorite moose load/bullet for the 7mm ? I currently have a really good 160gr Accubond load but was thinking about something around 175gr ?

Don't overthink this just because it is a moose. 160 accubond if accurate is more than enough

If you have a good load with 160 bullets stick with it. I don’t think 15 grs of bullet gonna make much difference

Default 7mm Rem mag moose load

I agree, but that being said, I have shot 17 or 18 moose over the years with the 175 grain Hornady Interlok bullets. No problem at all.

I’ve killed two with a 7mm magnum. One with the 150 TSX and one with the 160 North Fork. Neither went far.

I have killed several moose and elk with the 140gr TTSX, bullet construction means more than bullet weight.

Default Accubond 160gr

You don't need any bigger 61gr IMR 4350/Fed or Win brass. Will do 40" of moose and retain 60-70% bullet weight.Under 1/2" groups at 2920fps from a 26" Win 70

X2! 160 Accubond’s are all I’ve used in my 7mag on moose/elk for the last 12 years or so. Never had any issues and the elk/moose never made it far….

I get over 3100 fps with a 160 NP and maximum book load of R25. This is out of a 26inch barrel. The accubond should be close if not the same..

Ive used 150gr Nosler partitions alot....162 gr Interlocks or SSTs.
Doesnt seem to matter on the prairie moose I shoot.
All pretty much 2900- 3000fps.

I use 150 grain TSX for everything out of my 7mm Rem Mag. When Barnes released the TTSX, I bought 1/2 dozen boxes of TSX's. It should do me for as long as I hunt since I only burn 6-10 rounds a year between hunting and confirming zero.

I always used 160 AB's or PT's in my 7's but switched over to TTSX 150's and they're lethal. Easy to drop down 10 - 20 grs with the monos, gain 100 - 300 fps, and maintain accuracy while getting as good or better stopping power.

In the end try them all out and shoot what your rifle likes best.

My Sako 7mm mag likes the Federal Premium Vital Shock 160 gr Nosler Partitions.
Have not ever tried anything else in this rifle, zeroed, check zero prior to hunt after logistics, and one and done on moose when not opting for peep sight big bore levers versus scoped magnums.

Totally agree....if your rifle shoots the 160 AB well it is more than enough.

160g Accubonds or Partitions for me whenever I have elk or moose tags. I just feel more confident with them, can't explain it.

You're there with your current load I'd say.

I used the 175 fusion factory load on my cow moose . One shot at 300 yards and she was down . I usually use 150s , probably would have been fine as well

I used a 180 gr Berger VLD last year - 270 yards - one shot dropped like a rock.

160 grain nosler accubonds will do the job if the shoot is placed in the bread basket. You may want to consider a higher grain bullet in accubond should the shot be at distance or if your hunting in an area like I have. Lots of grizzly.
Cheers

My 7mm is happy around the 2700 to 2800 fps with a 175 grain and IMR 7828. I found a load with the discontinued Speer Deep Curl. Shot an elk this year at 400 yards and it was through and through hitting two ribs just under the spine. I have yet to find one to see what the retention is but everything is down.

162 ELDX are accurate in my rifle.

Have put together some 100 gr HP Sierras that are 3600 fps. Smacked a coyote out to 250 this year. Not fur friendly.
