Last year I made a plan to only dump the rain gauge on the first of the month. Last year it didn't really matter, this year it does.
May 1"
June 5"
July 1" so far.

Had a couple thunderstorms roll over yesterday afternoon/evening. Another 4/10". Could really use a couple weeks without rain, but the 7 day forecast show probability of rain on 3 days.

Nimrod, you must be East of Camrose! It was dark that way! Daughter was out in that area, camping! she said it was lightning, and heavy rain for about 3 hours last night! We in Camrose showed 2/10".

3 3/4" in less then 3 hours. Plus a bit of hail. Kind of strange, the size of the hail varied a lot, 1/4" to almost an inch. And it is still raining.

North of Hwy 16 west side Elk Island Park had a storm circle back Sunday afternoon. Had 1.75" in thirty minutes plus grape (small) sized hail that plugged the downspouts solid. Still hail melting in certain spots this morning. Feel for the producers as the hail punched out just about anything green. Lost the garden but in the big picture no other damage. Campers at the Park must of had a hellish time. Amazing power of nature. Hope that all were safe.

How are the farmers fairing this year? Lots of lodging I'd imagine?

I hit a couple wild storm fronts on the way home from Kindersley last night, a couple funnel clouds clearly visible, a torrential downpour near Unity, had to slow down to 70km not sure what they got but the water was laying everywhere, we had 8/10" in the gauge since I left Friday morning, the attached pic was sent to me by a friend and was taken near Kindersley just after I left yesterday.

Just north of EDM and we got very little rain all July. Having to run the irrigation every second day to keep the grass semi green. Crops look good but they must be getting to the point where they need some moisture to ripen off. The corn crops however are nearing 5 feet and seem to be make good progress in producing ears.

The water came down so fast, a manhole cover in front of my house lifted, and water was spraying out.

Saw that happen a couple of times in Calgary over the years, that takes a hell of a storm to have that happen. Just normal rain over the last week around here. Thought we were going to get hammered last nite, didn't get a drop.

SE is brutal hot last two weeks. Had the wife out shooting yesterday afternoon, we quit early. My garage rarely ventures above 70, was 78 yesterday, nights are not cooling off much.

Pretty good lightning show last nite, only rained for maybe 5-10min, most stayed north of us, pretty much dried up again already here, about all it did was raise the humidity a bit today.
