What are you people using to anchor your ice fishing shacks form blowing off the ice. Ideas and pics would be great.

my pop up came with deluxe ice anchors, they are like big self tapping screws. Takes one in each corner and 4 outside with ropes and they work great. They hold very well even in a strong wind and arent very hard to put in. Same as these, but I dont predrill a hole, they just screw into the ice

I have some ice screws, but they are expensive(used by climbers). There also some T shaped versions for ice fishing.

they do work well - pre-drilling a hole realy helps - the drills just another item to pack along if you remember .

Actually just use a hammer to just tap them in a little before screwing in ice. They grab a lot faster. I've seen them at CT, Fishin Hole, BPS and WSS for sale. DOn't know which is cheapest.

I don't know what that tool is, but what I have done is I took an old socket and notched it out. It looks just like what you have in that picture. Just remember that you need to notch it in the center of the socket.

If you look close you can see the tool also supports the ice screw underneath the handle, which is slick.

That's a good idea with the socket, I might have to fab something like that up until I can get my hands on this CLAM tool.

I'm sure a guy could fab something up that would be just as good, but that is pretty slick how it holds it...

Wayne...

I checked with my Crappy Tire here in Cochrane and they don't have them. She also said that all stores in Calgary and even the one in Airdrie doesn't have (and won't be getting them) either.
So I guess we are screwed...no pun intended.

Anyone up north willing to check the CT stores for stock?

guys, wouldnt a long screw (6-8 inches) or a lag bolt do the same job? I am planning on using my blind as a shelter this season and was just going to pick up some long screws or lag bolts. does anybody see any drawbacks to my idea that I am missing??

You can buy it at RedRock Store for $14.95 US plus shipping or you can save money and use the hammer to start them....

I rigged up a couple spring loaded anchors that you slip into a 6" deep hole. The spring spreads the bars out and they stick into the ice and hold real good. Maybe I'll take a picture of one and post it here.

That is a good idead to clamp onto the anchor. I used my socket today and it worked good. But I think I will order the clam tool also.

should work for a pre drilled hole, but these ice anchors are self tapping , with a groove in them to cut the ice. dont know how much difference it really makes,

I plan on using my blind as well. I think it will work great once I get some anchors. I'm sure bolts would work...I think the only benefit of the anchors is the T-handle. I removes the need for another tool to put them in.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep an eye out for them.
