The BSE form passed on to humans (vCJD) is unique to this situation, it would be a new and novel disease. Worldwide only 232 people have gotten it. Also remember that literally millions of people would have consumed this beef. Beef got it from rendered feed sources. CWD seems to have a different means of transmission but would it be infectious amongst humans if it jumped species? If one person gets it how would it spread to another person?

Sorry cannot explain mechanism how it jumped from cows to people. All I know is the number of Cjd cases shot way up when mad cow took off in UK. Still believe a prion cannot tell the difference of one brain from another.

All a prion is, is a misfolded protein
It’s not a virus, parasite or organism

Here is the funding:

We are grateful for financial support from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Genome Canada, and the Alberta Prion Research Institute. SG is supported by the Canada Research Chairs program.
