Not sure where Sutter head was with this one. If the Flames win, so what? If they lose, what is that going to say? All its going to do is give Sutter a reason bag skate them tomorrow. Really a no win situation for the Flames and not much of a confidence builder either way.

So you dressed everyone but McDavid and Draisaitl?

They are scared of the the Flames… clearly.

The group the have dressed aren’t doing that bad.

First a first game with more regulars.

I feel like Calgary dressed everyone more to get them acclimated with one another seeing as there are 3 big new additions and 2 big losses on the team. The Oilers roster is the same as last year sans Goalie so those guys are already gelled and solidified together

With one of them having a bum ankle to boot. Here I go, living in the past again (typical oilers fan). That's got to be at least 4 months now. I forget, what's the cutoff again?

We were missing our best defender and were banged up, that's hockey. We'll see how round 2 Goes this year

How could missing 1 defender be the difference when the Flames defense core is so much better and deeper than the Oilers?

And who on the Flames was more valuable to the team, then Draisaitl is to the Oilers, and was banged up to level of Draisaitl or even Nurse?

The defense was banged up and our team played like garbage, as I said, that's Hockey. If it's not just "That's hockey" than I guess give me your address and I can mail you some sort of "We beat Calgary" Banner.

Better matched team lineup will make for a good game.

It appears teams have challenges.

Who will overcome and excel?

Time will tell.

Lucky for us I guess that the Flames only make the second round about once a decade. Only 3 times since '89

A wildcard team with their 4'th string goalie almost punted them in the first round. And we all know what happened after that.

https://champsorchumps.us/team/nhl/calgary-flames

Nobody is afraid of the Flames in the playoffs. FACT.

I know, I know, this year's gonna be different, THIS is the year!

You are calling the Dallas netminder a 4th stringer? Calgary dominated Dallas and ran into the 2nd best Goalie of the tournament. If Ottenger played anything less than superb Calgary would have won that in 4, No different than if Edmonton had played McDavid and Draisaitl on the same line from Game 1 against LA.

From your Link, Calgary makes the playoffs on Average over the last 42 years more than Edmonton.

Virtanen is not impressing. I doubt he is going to survive past his tryout.

I like Holloway. Good hands. Always moving. Works hard.

Indeed, he looks good. Looks like they're playing all the guns tonight.

Campbell playing well.

Meh. Holland only picked him up to meet the minimum 8 vet requirement for preseason when they play the flames

Really sloppy game. McDavid didn't seem to have much drive tonight. I am glad it is the pre-season.

On a positive note, Campbell looked fantastic.

I’m actually glad they gave him a chance. If a jury of his peers found him innocent, then he should absolutely be given a chance to earn a living in his chosen profession. I’m fine if he signs a two way deal. If he can turn it around, and learn to play the game the right way that will keep him in the league, then good for him. He wouldn’t be the first high draft pick who had to reinvent himself.

In the day and age of #metoo, he wouldn’t be the first male wrongfully accused, and wrongfully convicted in the court of public opinion.

Thought some of the more analytical among you that can't access it would enjoy this:

From the Athletic by Dom Luszczyszyn, Shayna Goldman, and others.
