Default Need help. Flasher or sonar

Having troubles deciding which to get I mostly ice fish. I’m trying to decide between the Vexilar flx-12 or the Lowrance hook 2 5 ice machine sonar.

Best is to go for a walk and knock on a few tents and see the difference and see which one you like .
Why not get a sonar that you can change the picture to sonar or flasher mode and this way you have one of each of both worlds.
I keep mine on Sonar .

I prefer a flasher in shallower water but I use my zoom on my vex fl20 all the time. I believe there isn't a zoom feature on the flx 12.

Most sonars now days have a flasher mode - flashers, on the other hand, do not have a sonar mode.

If you buy the sonars with the "ice kit" you get the correct high ping frequency transducer (which operates exactly like a flasher) along with the battery.

That's what I'd buy.

If you are looking for bang for buck cant beat garmin striker 4 plus with the gt8 transducer, could easily see my lure in 80 ft at cold lake and also does well in shallow. It has flasher function also but dont use much. Unit itself is $180 ish and i diy a cooler for carrying and bought my own battery.

Another vote for sonar.

Like others have mentioned sonar with the flasher option.
