Default Nespresso Coffee Machines

Was at the mall today and stopped in at the Nespresso shop. Boy they do a good job of marketing their product, and lots of staff. I tried a couple shots of coffees and got to admit not bad. Any way thinking maybe I should get one?
Does anybody have any experiences that they would like to share.
Between the wife and I we drink a pot a day of drip coffee.
Thanks

My girlfriend got one for Christmas last year from her boss. It came with a milk frother thing. Yeah, the coffee isn't bad, but those little pods are expensive and sure make a lot of waste.

Personally I prefer a French press.

They are recyclable and when you place an order it’s free to mail them back. I like proper percolated coffee but for a quick one the Nespresso fills the bill.

Not a coffee drinker myself. Got one for the wife a year or three ago. She really likes it but can only drink one or two a week now. The coffee is very acidic and upsets her stomach now. That’s likely her issue and not an Nespresso problem, she has never experienced it with Kuerig coffees for instance.

They make great coffee in a jiffy. Pods are expensive like hell.

Thanks guys, My 20 yr old Espresso machine is loosing pressure and will need to be replaced. Did not want to spend big bucks for a new one. I am using a Mocha pot and actually love the coffee it makes. I just wanted something quick and easy with no clean up. But I want decent coffee.

I have one. Works flawlessly. The coffee is pretty expensive but quite good with a LOT of options out there.

for every pod coffee machine, get your pods off singelcup.ca, they give you the best deal, even tell you what each cup costs

We have one. Works great, make sure you keep the frother thing and nespresso machine clean so it functions properly.

We buy the "bestpresso" pods from Amazon.ca. 120 pods for $42.99, no tax, free shipping. $0.36 a cup. Product works perfectly and frankly tastes better than Nespresso brand.

So don't let operating cost bother you.

If you are going to invest that kinda money - at least buy something where you are not chained and captive to expensive coffee pods and limited selection.

If you enjoy drip coffee - I'd strongly suggest a Techivorm MochaMaster. It is, without a doubt, the best coffee machine you can buy and sets the benchmark on temperature accuracy, uses non reactive and precious metals in the construction of the machine and you are completely flexible to grind your own beans, buy preground of your choice and are not chained into a captive position by having to use high priced pods.

Precise temperature control in a non reactive flow controlled heating element is the single biggest factor associated with a quality cup of coffee you get (except maybe for the water itself).

All quality coffee shops use machines built to do exactly this - precision in temperature, flow rates and non reactive materials - and they cost money to achieve this.

Having said that, the machine is not cheap - $450-$480 but worth every penny.

HOWEVER - if you are buying a Nespresso machine for $250-$400 the added saving of not having to limit your selection of what coffee you drink and buy expensive pods pays for itself in literally months (if you are brewing a pot a day).

For drip coffee - there is simply no better choice out there.

We also own a Breville commercial machine for specialty drinks and steaming drinks - they run about $1000 but they can do anything from espresso, to latte, cappuccino, straight coffee, etc... but if you are drinking straight coffee - the Technivorm is unparalleled in quality ..... it's the best.

Just like a great hand load, I can provide a couple recipes to try - my favorite is 72 grams of fresh fine grind Lavatza Crema Coffee to a full pot.

Buy an AeroPress.
Makes a cup of coffee just as fast or faster than a Nespresso
Entirely "handamatic" so no electronics to blow up and you can still have a good cup of coffee when the power's out.
You can take it camping, hunting, fishing
Uses one very small filter per cup so environmentally friendly if that's important to you.
and... if you put in good coffee - good coffee comes out.
What's not to like?

Yes to the Aeropress! Best coffee maker. We have the stainless re-usable filter. Just rinse it off when you’re done. Works great.

Yep. Just got our own Moccamaster this holiday season and it is as good as drip coffee gets. They were 20% off at Transcend right before Christmas too.

Prefer a bodum so not for us. Sister in law bought one for when she visits and I pulled it out last trip and she used it once and said for us to sell it.

Checked on kijiji, there's lots on there and they are going for 90-100 bucks with various or no pods included-i would recommend buying a near to mint used one.

Creeky....

Sitting Bull, we have a Nespresso, drip coffee maker, and also an Aeropress. We jumped on the Nespresso bandwagon a couple years ago now. It makes great coffee, but it is expensive. My wife buys the pods right from Nespresso, but it sounds like there are other options now from the posts above which might make it more cost effective.

Our two oldest kids are drinking coffee now so a pot usually gets brewed, but it is nice in the evenings to make a cup conveniently. Over the holidays I usually make a really nice cup of coffee for my wife and in the Aeropress. I would almost always take an Aeropress coffee over the Nespresso. It just depends on whether you mind boiling water, or if you want something quick at the press of a button...

We have one but I don’t use it, I hate the waste and I honestly think these make a better cup. I’ve had 2 of these for about 30 years, no filter so buy blah blah…

Never had vietnamese coffee made this way. Checked out you tube and all videos show it made with condensed milk and ice. being diabetic, I can't drink this combo .
Is it any good without the condensed milk?

Have a Brand new one in the box with some pods. My wife won it. We don’t need it as we already have a nice coffee machine. PM me if interested. I can send pics and give you a good deal.

Well, I did some calculating this morning. A 2 pound bag of coffee has 907 grams.
A Nespresso capsule has on average 7g. So I would get roughly 129 capsules out of a bag/can of coffee. Average cost of 1 original capsule is .89c. So .89x129 capsule= $114.81 for the same bag of coffee that would cost me about $22.00
I really wanted a Nespresso. But not at that kind of cost for the capsules.
I think I"ll stay with the Moka pot and French press and buy a better drip coffee machine.
Thanks for all your input and did not mean to insult anybody that has a Nespresso. It's just to expensive for me.
Cheers

Amazon has some silicone things that let you reuse the Nespresso Virtuo line pods. Works well and you put your choice of coffee into it.

You could have a normal coffee maker and a Nespresso. That seems to work well. Make Nespresso once in awhile. If you get the frother with your machine, it’s the easiest latte you’ll ever make. Cheaper than stopping at Starbucks, which is why I think people most people pick them up.

I wouldn't by a Nespresso machine myself, I hate being tied to pods.

If you're serious about coffee, and willing to pony up big time for it, then look into a Jura one touch superespresso machine. They are incredible. If you're into all the milk based drinks then you really get your money's worth, and if you're like me and you just want a perfect cup of coffee every time, any time, then I can't imagine anything better. https://ca.jura.com/en

I bought a second hand Jura Z5 about 10 years ago now, it wasn't cheap, even used. I loved it so much my wife and I ended up buying a new E8 3 years ago and taking the old Z5 (it's starting to wear out, it's almost 20 years old) to the cabin. The E8 is even better.

I've wanted one of those Moccamaster drip coffee units for a long time, I've heard they're amazing, but can't really justify the expense when the Jura is already on the counter.

Keurig is what the wife has and buys her pods at Costco
there was a nice place in Edmonton south side that had about 100 different kinds of pods and reasonably priced, name escapes me now

some really good ideas here,
will show the wife some new choices

Valentine’s Day is coming up and maybe some discounts then perhaps
