Looks a lot like what I see on our walks, can you give a picture of what it looks like when standing?

I tried to upload a few more pics but somehow the upload failed… not sure why.
This one was the birch bolete, it had darker top than the aspen bolete that has an orange top. aspen boletes are more readily available…

If they have white spots on the "dome" they are a totally different thing! Poison!

Congrats to OP....around here any bolettes getting half that size are full of worms already....

Absolutely correct, if the cap has white dots on it- it’s a poison mushroom. You won’t die eating it but you will meet your toilette bowl really really close….
As for the worms: I was absolutely surprised that such a large mushroom had no worms at all! Not a single hole in it! Usually when they get to this size- I don’t even bother picking them.

Yesterday I went to pick up some cucumbers for pickling from a local small farmer and on the way home made two stops… found these just off the road in the ditch. I probably could’ve picked more but the bloody mosquitoes were like a rabid dogs attacking me! So I run…

I really have to learn how to identify mushrooms... there are at least a half dozen different mushrooms growing here and I keep looking at them and thinking "you look yummy, but ..." and keep on walking.

Boletes have been profuse this year. Many people have picked many pounds.
Now with the cold weather the boletes should have way less worms. Picking them in the morning when it's cool would be best.

Sometimes you can tell if the boletes are male or female too.

The second pic is from Poland. The boletes there can weigh 5kg., like this one.

The red top mushrooms with white spots are called Fly Algaric or Amanita muscaria. If you dice them up and put them in some milk in a dish every fly in the area will be near or in the dish dead.

Amanitas can be deadly and will send you on a psychodelic trip along the way.

Yes the boletes are great this year, but the both times when we went out we got nothing! I picked more boletes walking the dog in 15 minutes than walking thru the bush with Red Bullets
Hey Eugine, we shall go out again!
