Wood Stove Fan
anyone use something like this in their tent? It seems like a good idea, and these are going on sale.

Princess Auto has a Double Fan model. It actually moves a good volume of air, on the same principle.
That one does work!
On a tin wood stove in a wall tent, the reality is that the stove and the stove pipe radiates the heat, but there is so much air leakage that the benefit of air movement is negligible.
If you want to try to keep heat in a bigger tent, like a 14 x 16, get yourself an insulated tarp like they use on construction sites. Drape that over the back section of the roof to keep heat in, AND another over the wall at the rear.
Many years ago we only did the roof portion on a November trip that hit - 20 C. The top insulated tarp did help, but a 5 gallon water carrier near the back wall froze solid even though the front area near the stove was toasty warm. If we had simply wrapped the back wall section with another insulated tarp, we would have had a nice warm sleeping area at the back of the tent.

One FYI, the thermo couple that comes on alot of these fans will get cooked in the first couple of years, and they quit working. You can get more of it from a computer store, and they will typically get about 5 years before it needs to be done again.

That's my plan too. I was going use a scrap angle iron and a couple magnets on the spark arrester. I don't want have to move it every time we load the stove.
Sale starts today, going to take a look at one.

One thing, in the directions that came with mine it states that the fan (meaning thermocouple paste) will last longer it is placed to the side of the chimney and can draw cooler air, than if placed directy in front of the stove pipe.

The one from Princess is magnetic or you can clamp it with the hose clamp.

The EcoFan is a must if you are looking for even heat in your space, or just more heat in general.
Plenty of comments about thermocouple issues. Mine sees about 20-25 days of use a year (tent) and I'm on year 7 with no issues. Not sure the usage rates others are putting theirs through to cause this issue? Perhaps EcoFan branded models are better built but again, who knows.
