Not going to win them all but it’s nice to win 6 in a row then drop 1 now and then.
Alberta teams got it the other way around

Maybe one or these teams can bring back James Neal for inspiration and a win

I think if there was a deal that Conroy wishes he could take back, it would be the Tyler Toffoli trade to the Devils. They need a goal scorer and in hindsight they shipped out of town their best goal scorer last year Too late now, but me thinks Conroy's biggest problem right now are the two big deadweight contracts that Treliving saddled him with for Huberdeau, and Kadri respectively. If Conroy can find another team that would take even one of them for some draft picks, it would be a step in the right direction for the Flames.

Getting rid of one of those contracts is going to be costly.
Think back to when Toronto needed cap space and traded Patrick Marleau to Carolina.
Carolina got Marleau (no salary retained by the Leafs ), a first and a 7th. Toronto got a 6th rounder in return.
This was for a contract that only had one year remaining on it.
Kadri has this year plus 5 more on his contract.
Huberdeau is in the first year of an 8 year deal.
The cost to trade one of these guys would cripple the Flames for many years.

Jim Treliving deserves a statue. Jeez. Nice parting gifts.

If we aren't gonna rebuild, keeping them could cripple the Flames for many years.
Fun fact, going back 15 years, Flames have one 1st rounder playing on the team, Coronato. I'd be okay with them blowing it up and rebuilding.

It's a pick your poison situation.
Keep Kadri or lose multiple draft picks?
Keep Huberdeau or lose multiple draft picks?
Toronto had Matthews, Marner etc when they dealt Marleau so losing a first rounder wasn't that big of a deal.
Calgary has no real top end players to speak of. Losing the first rounders would affect the team for more than a decade.
I'd resist the urge to deal Kadri and Huberdeau. Hopefully, some of the recent picks turn into good players on low cost, entry level/rfa contracts. Maybe the Flames get lucky and Kadri and Huberdeau develop an allergy to hockey equipment or something like that.
Maybe they turn their play around.
Maybe I stick an arrow in a 180 class buck.

Flames crippled this year and for many years no matter how they play it.
I'm old enough to remember how letting Tkachuk go and getting Huberdea was a big win, and Kadri was icing on the cake.
That's really working out.
If you have been a fan since 1980, you have learned to just accept the suck. Hell.

At 7 million per season I don't think Calgary will have much of a problem getting rid of Kadri. Probably won't happen until the deadline but he will go to a team that over performed this year and has some extra cap space for this year and several years to come. Kadri is a proven playoff performer.
Huberdeau is a different animal. Completely over paid based on 1 excellent year, like Nurse over paid. This one is going to hurt for a long time. Only way I see Calgary moving Huberdeau is if you give Hanifin away for free. Basically Huberdeau and Hanifin for further considerations and maybe somebody bites.

With neither team going anywhere this year, the best we got to look forward to is the battle of Alberta…. 1-0 but who’s counting.

Decided I'd watch the, what youtube is calling "highlights":
-1st Goal, scored before Calgary even had a shot on goal, 3 edmonton players between Markstrom and the last Calgary defender;
-2nd Goal, 2-1, as per typical Calgary fashion, we take neither the pass or player;
3rd Goal, About 3 Flames players screen Markstrom, and possibly tipped it, into their own goal;
4th Goal, A bouncing, tipped shot, ok, fair enough;
5th Goal, Dman gave the puck right to the Edmonton forward, resulting in a one-on-one with an empty net.
Sounds like it was pretty even hockey when the Flames had the 5-3.

^ that’s what I saw too.
Quite possibly Calgary’s worst game in recent history. This year for sure.
