For so-called ‘European’ mounts
Prepare your submission as follows:
Collect all tissues from the roof of the mouth at the back of the throat (this must contain the necessary lymph nodes)
Collect the part of the brainstem that contains the connection between the spinal cord and the brain (this lies ~5 cm inside the big hole at the back of the skull)
Bag the two samples separately and then put the two bags together in a third bag. This keeps all tissues from one animal together.

Here in Montana you Pretty much cut the throat and behind the tongue there’s 2 retro pharyngeal lymph nodes. Cut them both out and in half. Put one half of each into 2 whirl packs and submit. We don’t require the obex sample from the brain stem. The reason for cutting the nodes in half is if they get a suspect sample then they BBC a double check to confirm. Pretty simple but look out for the salivary glands. They get mistaken as lymph nodes every now and then. When you cut them they look like little sacks where as the lymph node looks like a lime bean made of phlegm. I imagine alberta has their own system but should be close to the same. Either way you can take the sample and send the skull off for boiling or beetle work.

Here’s what the lymph nodes look like. If you pull the jaw straight back by holding onto the front part where his lower teeth are in one motion this is what you’ll see
