I stopped in on the North West end of Sylvan Lake, Palm Bay road to be more specific and saw about 10 guys out on the lake fishing. They had their vehicles parked on shore and hauled their stuff out on foot. Some guys walked out about 400 yards but I can not report on ice thickness.

That was Snipe last Saturday. I'll be on Sturgeon this weekend. It will be similar other than a few known bad spots at first ice.

weather is awful for ice making and, in fact, will contribute to rotting the existing ice. It's going to be real bad for Newell and adjacent bodies of water over the next 14 days (at minimum...)

We were hoping to camp on the ice for NYE this year down that way, but it's gonna be open water, I'm afraid. Actually packing our open water gear and might have to just shore fish it and "camp" in the truck on land.

Calling was below freezing all day yesterday and has made more ice over the last week.

Measured 10 - 12 inches on the east side. Ice was stable with a small heave starting to form on the east side of about 6 inches within 30 feet of shore.

Slight skiff of snow on the ice, so the sliders on the sled did get lubricated.

Default Chain Lakes Res

Was at Chain today, 5-6 inches and a few other people out. 4 trout landed, the usual small guys. Ice was decent, some more cold will help.

Default Newell

I just had a look at Newell, there were aa few people out from the Kinbrook beach on foot, lots of open water out on the main lake . Jackfish was deserted but frozen over, but I doubt its very thick now I wasnt going to go stomp on it.
