We were there last December and fished with JLC Fishing. He's known as the Amberjack king in that area (so I found out afterwards lol). We did a bit of trolling for Bonito/bait but our focus was jigging the reef. He had us on fish all day....Amberjacks (including a 60lb moster) trigger fish until your arms were sore and a couple more Bonito....even managed to land a reef shark that stole a trigger fish.
The big fish were mostly out of season while we were there. He recommended a restaurant after that cooked our catch for us and he provides lunch and non alcoholic drinks. I'd book him again.
Perfect! Thanks! And that is exactly the fishing me and the wife what to do! We head to Cabo for big deep sea, and that's great, but some fun inshore jigging and bait trolling is what we are looking for in Puerto Aventuras...so you nailed it! Thanks again!

We were the same way.....if I'm paying to go fishing I wat to fish lol. If you've never jigged up an amberjack from 500 feet.....be prepared. I as surprised how long and how high up they will continue to fight. Thar big one was 35 minutes.
Hopefully you trip is as good as ours was.
When we used to go to the Riviera Maya I used to always use Wasabi Loco in Puerto Aventuras which is just down the road from Playa del Carmen. We did well with them, but March isn't usually the best time for deep sea trolling for sailfish and mahi mahi. However, it might be worth a try (https://www.wasabiloco.com/). If you are into fly fishing you can do a day trip down to the Sian Ka'an and go with someone like Pesca Maya (https://pescamaya.com/day-trips-for-...ascension-bay/).

Ya! My wife got a great education on deep-water jigging in Dec when we hit the water in Costa Rica...lol...we were in 300-400' jigging for grouper and what the locals called Conger Eels....they were more like a ling-cod/Cat fish...but regardless when she hooked Into one it was about just 10 minutes in when she just yelled.."For F#$k Sakes!! How much water is out here!!" LOL...good Ole Alberta gal....just jigged in Albert's 20ish feet of water...now has a better "Depth" of understanding for the ocean...lol

Thanks for the Info!! I'll check these out for sure for maybe a later trip. Really looking for some easy trolling for Bonito and bait fish to drop down later and see what grabs on. My wife is awesome and has gone with me many, many times hunting Marlin, Swords, Mako and Mahi...but she really enjoys the smaller inshore fish..She can spends days catching Mackeral, Bonito, Jack's and what ever...but her favourite is bottom fishing....ya never know what yer gonna get...lol. So the past and next few trips are going to be geared for her!
