Default Frenchmans Bay Cold Lake

While I am aware of the difficulties with the launch this season due to low water levels, do you think Frenchmans Bay will be a good place to target pike in late May or is the water too low?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I've only been there once in September.

Thank you

Think you may be thinking of a different area….
The majority of French bay is well over 100’ deep, not sure why you would think the water would be too low.
Now the back bays off of English bay one may have a difficult time getting a boat over the sand bars but once past it, it should be fishy.

I believe you're referring to Jackfish Bay, to the left of the launch?
That bay averages 4 - 6ft deep. Seeing as the water is roughly 30" low, I'd say she's a top-water kind of area this year.

Ya gotta get into the 2 feet of water to pick off the pike right now as they will be sitting in the warmer water.

Good luck!

Chatted with a fella yesterday who was in a kayak that came out of the shallow bay as I was heading out to French bay for lakers.
Typical pike slay day there, every cast was picked off but again in water two feet or less way back in the bay.
This is typical of all the back bays in spring then they get choked out with weeds etc as the water warms up then the gators and eyes move out to the big water.
Don’t waste your time in 4-6 fow water unless you like going through the motions working on your casting.
My next outing will be there and will post the findings.

Perfect depth for top water on the fly. My small zodiac style boat will maneuver in there perfectly. Thank you for the details.
