Apparently there is a goldfish problem @ Sylvan…

Would you go the pesticide route or try something else?

I think we're stuck with these kinds of invasive species. According to one authority I heard, we have Asian Carp in Dog Pound creek.

If you poison the adult fish now, will the babies that hatch later starve to death?

Default Dont release our Aquarium fish

People need to stop releasing their pet fish into local waters like ponds and lakes! A leading cause of introduction. They grow bigger than you think and contribute to poor water quality by mucking up the bottom sediments and uprooting plants. Usually, it's because people are tired of the fish, they don’t have the proper aquarium or they figure it is time to get rid of it. Many feel it is cruel to kill a pet fish, so they decide to release it into a world of freedom.

It changes the entire ecosystem of the water in where goldfish, Koi Carp, and other aquarium fish are released. it could be catastrophic, to game fish populations. Goldfish belong to the carp and minnow family and, like their counterparts. Introduction increases the turbidity of water through their feeding activity. This reduces the amount of sunlight reaching underwater plants which then leads to habitat loss for native species. These along with their high reproductive rate, make goldfish a threat to Canadian waters. It’s also illegal to release these fish in Alberta. I have fished and removed a good many, we should look at it as our duty to do so and help reduce the problem.

Not to derail this post. We came back from Vancouver Island and was so dis appointed that our boat was not inspected for invasive species BOat was checked going to Vancouver in golden .Does our government not care about our waters. Its only a matter of time before we have lots of problems from un due attention to our water ways.

Goldfish in a drainage pond in Magrath, were cleaned out once a couple years ago at the expense of $50,000 to the town only to have some dimwitted fool plant em again a year later ...the fish are also in ponds in Lethbridge. The general public either doesn't know or care about native agencies that will be affected downstream.
