Default Mazda CX9 Transmission Question

I have a 2013 Mazda CX9 with about 250,000km. I’m looking to sell it and had somebody take a look at it today. When they put the car in Drive from Reverse it made a loud clunk. It happened when we bought the car used about 6yrs ago. We found something online that basically told us how to “reset” the transmission. Of course I can’t find the article again and he backed out on the buy (I would too). Just curious if you guys have an idea on how to “fix” the problem. We haven’t driven the car in a few months and it’s been dead for a while. I don’t know if it needs to be driven for a while to relearn things or if it’s something more. When I took it for a drive, it wouldn’t make the loud clunk the first couple times of going from R to D but if I repeatedly did it, it would make the clunk after about 4-5 times.
