Default 9” width ATV tire on 10” rim

Any chance a 9 inch width ATV tire will go on a 10 inch rim?

I want to replace the 2 rear tires on my 2010 850 Polaris XP.
Current tires are 26 x 10 x 14 and I am seeing a fair selection of used more aggressive maxi and mud lite tires, however, they are 9 inch widths.

I am seeing 30 x 9 x 14 and 26 x 9 x 14.

Will the 30 inch have a little bit more play to expand out the extra half inch inner and outer more than the 26 inch?

Or will these just not work out at all?

I'm thinking it might put a lot of additional stress on the sidewalls and beads?
Someone with knowledge and/or experience in doing this will be along shortly.
In the meantime, I offer you this:

It'll be fine! Seems to work out OK for the Toyota owners.

May be easier to knock the tire off of the bead in rough stuff, given the low pressure.

A lot of those rims have some pretty heavy duty bead retention bumps (Trying to snap up beads under inflation can be hairy! lol) and that would not be so much my worry as much as the fact that the stretched tire leaves the sidewalls more exposed to cuts/damage when pounding the rough stuff, and then also having more crap getting pushed between the bead of the wheel and tire causing leaks would suck.

I haven’t looked for years, but I went from a 10” wide to a 12” wide. It really helps with flotation. I don’t think I would go narrower.

The quad may of had 10" tires but that does not mean your rims are 10", most are 12X7 on the XP. A 9" tire will work fine and many of the models came with the same rim and 9" tires. Check out the link, covers a whole wack of years and models.
