Default Gun Auction

I saw an ad in the local paper (The Mountaineer) for a Meier Gun Auction on Sat. coming up in Edm. Thought I may get a chance to go have a look.

Went to their web site to see a listing but the sale is not till the 19th. I'll be in New Zealand by then.

agreed most auctions are like that, people get in a trance like gambling, when the auctioneer starts, they have to win the bid and they buy broken Black and Decker drill for $80.

I don't think there is much hope of seeing a listing. I went to their last auction an didn't know what was on sale until I got to the preview

For this auction preview is December 18 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and December 19 9:00 AM to sale time of 10:00 AM

Meier has listings in the edmonton sun on the friday one week b4 the auction and also the friday b4 the auction. Couple of pages in from the back in the auction section. But be fore warned, prices that **** sells for there is really high. Ppl dont do there home work b4 hand.

Last one I was at they sold a norc Tokarev for $500.00 ...yup $500.00 Also there is a 25% buyers fee,5% if you pay with a credit card, plus GST on top of that. In my humble experience its not worth the time or effort. Me and a buddie walked out of the last one half way through cause of the stupid bidding prices. Just my .02 cents worth but if you have a day to burn its good for the ****s and giggles factor as to what ppl will pay for stuff.....Ice....

You would think that if they can advertise in the Sun they could put the listing on their web site. Their web site still says "Watch for Listing" and the auction is four days away.

THe Meier Auction sucks...and there are a couple of reasons:

1. There are gun dealer/resellers there which do buy alot but the ones they buy are extremely cheap so they can be fixed up and the ones worth buying are way overpriced beyond retail once the bidding is over.

2. Gun like the 3 Centennial Collectors Winchester 30-30 went for over 1000 dollars. A chinese SKS was over 300?? Remington 870s were from 3-500? Used....the prices were just nuts.

3. Inexperience buyers get caught up in the bidding and then then it just goes over price.

4. There is a 15% Buyer fee that you pay on top of the winning price and if you pay by credit card there is another 5% fee. So that Chinese SKS would have been 350 at least...very disappointing.

How much someone is willing to pay for a gun often depends on how much you want a particular gun and its availability.

For example I had long wanted a Winchester model 100, chambered in .284 win.

Now they have not made them in some time and they are "fairly to quite" rare
to find for sale.

So when I saw one at an auction I says to myself " I want this gun a bunch and so I will bid just about whatever it takes to own it." I didn't care much what the blue book said it was worth.

When it came on the block I bid aggressively and whoever else that was bidding did not want it as much as I did so I won the prize.

The kids really didn't need new shoes that bad anyway.
