Default 50/50 bar solder

anyone in the Calgary area know where 50/50 bar solder can be purchased?
one local plumber wants $ 14.50 for 1/2 lb. ...little pricey; last time I purchased at WSS about 6 years ago, $ 2.95 lb. for 1lb ingots.

Phone a plumbing wholesaler. Also lead roof flashing might be a 50/50 mix, I can't remember if it is for sure though so ask. Hope this helps

A friend was looking for it for mixing alloy bullets a few weeks ago and I think he found reclaimed lead at Federal Metals and 50/50 or even 40/60 at Canadian Metals?

The solder at all the plumbing wholesalers I get to is wire solder. You can find the heavier bar solder at HVAC suppliers, the tinsmiths use it to solder flashings, etc. Sinclair Supply, Ecco, Alggin, Wolseley HVAC, Carrier all have this in Calgary.

It ain't cheap! I ended up paying $16.50 for a pound of 50/50 solder from my local plumb shop. And then I looked for other options, as I still feel that that is ridiculous coin for what amounts to 1/2 lb. of tin and 50 cents worth of lead.

So......... Look out at garage sales, thrift stores. flea markets for pewter beer mugs, figurines, candle holders. Most pewter is between 85% and 98% tin (fine English Pewter mostly in the form of those glass bottom mugs) .The really dark stuff could be up to 60% tin, 40% lead Most stuff can be had for $50 cents-$1.00 a piece and is a a bargain
when you think back to the price at the plumbing store.
