Cold or Minnewanka?
Help me decide. We fished Cold Lake this past weekend and did OK for lakers and I want to go somewhere again this weekend. I'd like to try Minnewanka one last time for the season but haven't heard any recent reports. Has anyone been on Minnewanka within the last week? If the bites are few and far between I'll head back to Cold Lake. Any updates on Minni would be appreciated. Thanks.

Minnewanka has been slow this season after about June. It's not isolated to just us but a few other groups who have fished that lake this season. You can't expect to pickup more than a handful of fish it seems. A few guys have been skunked that are "vetrans" of that lake.
It sure isn't what it used to be.
If you do go out there troll to find them. When you find the elusive critters - anchor off and jig a large buzzbomb (has to be over 2oz in the parks) green and white works well or a 2oz white bucktail.

Thanks EZM
That's about what I figured. I think I'm leaning toward a trip back to Cold Lake. The bottom was littered with finder sitings on the weekend and a few were rising to the bait. They weren't interested in my Buzz Bombs - instead they went after silver spoons with some red on them at about 100 ft. The downrigger didn't get much use as they were more interested in chasing a jigged spoon.
Minnewanka is visually a nice place to fish, but as you say the time and effort and the cost of Parks permits is making it less attractive every year.

Oh ya, few rollers, keeps the tourists from following me to my hot spots and no Garnet isnt one of them. Not all locals fish Garnet as mentioned in a previous post, actually, out of all my friends that live in Cold Lake, non fish Garnet except in the winter.I have a 16.5 Lund, no problem today as long as you respect the lake and dont get brave and stupid

Tyee, have you ever fished with Ronny O from CL north? He is recently retired from Esso. They have the cabin on the southeast shore, just east of the park.
