How much shore line is populated by people compared to wild life? Who are you ddddd05? A rumor starter by the looks of things. The way ddddd05 explains it sounds like there going to throw in a cluster bomb and run.

I fish Wab too and agree the fish should be saved, saved by closing power plants beside them that cause major pollution. They closed one but there is still two more. If you like to listen to your music or turn on a light at night that's not going happen. This development (if it goes through) is a minor (if at all) impact compared to the the damage the three power plants,oh! and a derailed train has done and will do.

There are ways for man and wild to coincide we/they just have to take the necessary steps, cause mankind isn't getting smaller and the world is growing, its inevitable.

Can any body suggest how this could work for both ends? That kind of feedback could help and is more constructive.

Information is key, do your research before u vote on something that's a rumor and not fact.

You ask more questions than provide answers so obviously you don't know what the true impact is. If thats the case... is it fair you to jump on another poster?

Remember, development... however minor... has impact. Power plants aren't going anyway... BUT we can have our say in the future.

Its just that Duckbrat, its a model an idea not the final blue prints! To Jayballs i am not jumpin just putting more perspective into the issue. Shouldnt we put our ideas to Wabamun suggesting ways to conserve and to find out just what they plan on doing about conservation in this area. I find it hard to believe that all they have planned is a floating dock.
Flood there office with ideas if the petition doesn't work out maybe they will use ideas that have been proven in other areas that you and others have passed down. Fighting it may work but working with them may go farther, do both!! Win win right?
I'm not here to squash your petition just giving a wider array of thought.

I used to manage the Environmental COmpany that did the shoreline assessment and the that would be doing the fish habitat assessment. The person that did the assessments is very very good at her job and if there was any potential for loss of wildlife whe would be sure to catch it. As well the beginnning to this project and the main purpose behind it for the arcitectural and environmental cmopanies is to clean up the old power plant station that is right across the road from it and try to make something more ecologically viable then an abandoned contamination pit.

I am certainly not for developement anywhere that could take from natural lands but there is always so much of the picture that we do not see.

Hi Formykids,

The area where the decommissioned power plant is across the railroad tracks from where this development is proposed. The area slated for development is currently a 65 acre natural area. I would be glad to show anyone around the area because it is quite beautiful. I saw a golden eagle there last week.

Default Duckbrat states it clearly

Thanks to Duckbrat for stating it clearly. The development plan shows houses in places that are currently reed beds. The only way to build a house on them is to fill the wetland in with gravel and/or concrete.

Josh my recommendation to you is to not roll over onto your back and let whoever take advantage of your natural resources, but fight to protect them. Once they are gone they are gone.

If you would like me to show you the biodiversity of this 65 acre plot of land, I would be proud to show you.

ddddd05 has it right, that area is the prime spawning area for the pike. I grew up summers on PT Allison, last cabin on the point(great fishing)...I know this area well and the loss of that spawning and young rearing area would do alot to make this lake very average very quickly! THis area is no different than the channel @ pigeon , and that area is closed to fishing every spring for a reason. The same reason this area should be left protected !

Josh Goebel- the power plants have actually helped to make this lake the trophy fishery that it is, the warm water has helped to greatly increase the biomass available to the forage fish (perch and whites) that these big pike rely on for food !Theres more weed growth, that helps to allow the smaller fish shelter to grow. These shallow / marshy areas are the place where most on the biomass grows and spends it's life. The big picture / cycle of life says that the top predator will suffer when then food source/ biomass below it shrinks or dissappears.
If you look at a map , there is no river that supplies this lake with water, it is a spring fed lake. THis lake would have alot colder water temp. average and the biomass would again be affected. This is one lake that gets very little algae bloom in the summer and is one of my favorites because of this !

The way this lake has recovered from the spill and other issues is amazing, but to turn every square inch of it into a beach/cabin/marina area just to get more of a tax base is too much !

SIGNED!!!

i agree with crazyfish... i havent spent a lot of time on the lake but i have been there enuf to know that we dont need to turn it into just another great lake that has been ruined by greed.... incase anyone hasnt noticed before but that seems to happen alot in our beautiful province... im born and raised albertan and it makes me sick when i see how many lakes have been over developed and over fished.

i understand that wab is a big lake and that there is lots of spawning areas and this seems like a very small project in comparison to the lake... if someone was to hold out their arms and another person were to started stacking cinder blocks on them, it wouldnt take very long for their arms to give out.

thats my 2 cents and u can take if for wats its worth but i know for a fact that im not the only true blood albertan out there that feels this way, and there is not a lot of us true albertans left.

The more development not only decreases fish spawning grounds but it also increases boating pressure. Tried to fish Jackfish this summer gave up after a few hours Speed boats ,skiers, jetskis, tubers.I know we all have to enjoy the same waters but it was ridicules. Would hate to see the same happen at Wabamun.

Default google earth picture of area affected

Nice work to everyone who has signed the petition. I wanted to attach an ariel photo of the area that is threatened.

Behind Point Allison you can clearly see where the trees stop. Right where they stop the grasses and willow bushes start. Deer often bed down here. If you were to step from the trees into the grass you would be in knee deep water. The development plan shows houses right here. I don't see how this can be done without filling the area in with gravel and dewatering the area.

The other thing I think is quite noticeable is how shallow the area is. The combination of reedbeds and the shallow weedy area make this prime pike spawning habitat. There are only a couple areas like this remaining on the whole lake.
