they could be at any depth. punch a line of holes extending out into the lake. start fishing heading out towards the middle. youll find there depth.

Where I fish for them it's always right on the bottom. Bounce the jigs on the bottom then jig up say a foot.

Every lake, time of season, place, location, type of structure is different to catch walleye in winter. Trial and error.

It is best for the walleye if you fish in 25' or less though. And 30 feet should definately be the max. Mustang is right on though, it varies.

Monday we are going to drag the 'ol Ice shack on the Crawling Valley to give er a shot. Any one know of any good spots on the ice??
I was going to try the spots I usually fish in summer. Will the Walleye still use that Structure or do they change in winter?

I never fish deeper than 15 ft for walleye thru the ice. Even when the ice gets thick, I stay at about the same depth.More often 6-10ft of water if fishing off a point or a sunkin island.

early ice walleyes will usually haunt their fall spots. as the winter season progresses you will find them keying on deeper isolated structure or large flats close to deep water. fast breaks from shallow water is a prime spot as forage moves from their day time spot to deep water in the evening....walleye wait in ambush mode. this is prime time to catch large eyes(10lb+). the walleyes will be suspended. if your shallow edge is 6 feet deep and adjacent to 30 feet of water, expect the walleye to be suspended 8 feet down in that 30 feet of water. usually the walleyes working the slope will be smaller fish.
as winter approaches spring the walleyes will move to basins near their spawning area.
if your able to fish a area that posseses all these qualifications.....your dead and have gone to heavan
