Sounds like a "Rossi". Did you catch the make/manufacturer by any chance?

it was a television series called " Wanted-Dead or Alive"
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...w=1032&bih=492
I had one if those years ago, with the factory holster- 1962IIRC - of course mine was made of plastic and the holster was kinda like rubber - don't remember it being able to shoot, either!!
pretty cool little gun - the real one, that is....

Mare's Leg
Go to the Henry Repeating Firearms Website and they are making them. They look pretty neat.
Don't quote me but I think the calibers are 22 mag and 45.

As I remember it, they are not getting the full potential out of it.
I believe it had a piece of metal on the front of the lever that could be pivoted ahead to contact the trigger just as the lever closed to lock up the action. So as the lever closed the gun fired. Steve MeQueen would hold the gun out front of him and crank the lever up and down firing multiple rounds just like a semi-auto.
In those old westerns a "six shooter" generally could shoot 12 or 15 rounds without reloading. This gun must have had a hollow stock filled with ammo as it never went dry.

You can get them in 44mag, but a 44 won't do anything a 45 won't. The 45 can also be rechambered to 454Casul if desired .
Overall length is 23", not restricted.

Oh,I don't know. I've taken enough animals with a bow, don't see any reason why this would have less range. Should be good out to 50 or 60 yards anyway. If you can't get within that, might be time to hang up the old hunting boots

I'm actually looking at one for when I'm out horseback riding. It'd be way easier to get out fast enough than a normal rifle. 5 shots should be enough to protect me and my horse from a bear or cougar.

They are great little rifles, lots of people using them for bush guns & fun.
I've been making holster for them for 6 months now & Lots of orders still coming in.
http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=144548
And yes ... they can be drawn from my holsters pretty fast...

Are you shooting those cast factory 750 fps loads ?
I have some plated 230 gr Berrys loaded up to 1250 fps and jacketed Hornady 240 gr at apprx 1700 fps.
Shooting them out of my Win 94 Legacy lever action, also fun to shoot.

Small usless tid bit . The mares leg can also be seen in the sci fi series fire fly and in the feature movie serenity. Mr McQueen wore it best .
