Default Hiawatha 22 cal... Maybe Cooey?

I am looking for where the serial number for this particular model may be stamped. After removing a substantial amount of rust, I found "Hiawatha 22 S.L. L.R." stamped on the top of the receiver just in front of the buckhorn sight. However I can not locate a serial number on the reciever, or tubular mag, or bolt. Which leads me to believe that

A. This model was not stamped with a serial number, or preceeding such requirements.

or

B. I am looking in the wrong spots.

Now heres where I need some of the forums collective insight...

Where are the serial numbers on other early model cooey's that you are aware of.

Thanks in advance,

Jimbo.

I have an old Cooey single shot 22 given me by my father-in-law years ago. It does not have a serial number anywhere. Initial response of the long gun registry was to demand I had the gun destroyed for that reason. I refused, and they eventually relented, and gave me a sticker.
