Cool. Yeah, use your camera or sonar to find where the depth really changes and drops the most. Place your holes on either side and maybe one on the drop itself. It doesn't matter if the depth is different at the drop (8, 10 or whatever) it is more important to work the drop off.
Some people like to fish with the flasher. And some are very, very good with it. Not my cup of tea. That is my personal preference. I prefer to really see them and adjust to what I'm seeing. That and watching a fish trying to attack my lure is a little more exciting than seeing the bigger red line approach the green line... bah! Of course a flasher is used when you can't see at all...
You won't catch me laying on the ice. I'm sure others have done it but I like to be reasonably comfortable. A small one/two man shack would serve you well. Maybe think about picking one up next year. You can keep right in your permanent shack and then you can jump out with the portable shack whenever you want. I got the Shappell Bay Runner II for this year and is just plain awesome. Less than a minute to setup and and I keep it setup and move from hole to hole. That and it is dark in that tent. It's like light doesn't even exist
Makes for great visibility.

Rr23
Yesterday at RR23 I was right down to bottom of my Strikemaster motor before breaking through. Surprised me. 2 holes were like that. A third was not so much, maybe a foot less. Hope this helps. BEL

I'm sure we will get a report back on any new heaves. I would surprised though if there was anything else to worry about.

got to the ice at 730 fishing. went out of the shack to another area on norgenwald. Man was it cold. marked fish....but after 1 hr i went to the shack and warmed up for a bit. at around noon another AO memeber said to try west of norgenwald...maybe half moon bay? drilled 2 holes...one at 12 fow one at 15 or 16. had a gold jig that flashes crazy when u pull it up...abive that a WW. no fish at 12 fow...at 15 i could draw them in but no bites....i think my presentation is bad....i dunno.Im gunna move my shack on sat to deeper water. im gunna probably put it between norgenwald and half moon bay. there is a small shany town of kike 10 shacks....UNLESS SOMEONE KNOWS A PLACE TO PUT IT... ( PM is fine...
i didnt see a big ice heave or nothing where i was.....so...ice was thick tho!!!! heard there was a mini earthquake or ice quake....i dunno tho....
so skunked again.....boooo

Anyone on Sylvan lately?
I'm going to Sylvan tomorrow and wondered if one can drive on at Sunbreaker, I heard there's an ice heave? We had to walk on with snowshoes at another lake yesterday and we're exhausted! LOL! Just wondering about Sylvan. Thanks for any info.

Ice at RR23 today was 3.5 feet thick, as thick as I'd ever seen it. Trucks not having any trouble on the ice/snow, a few SUVs out, no cars though. Access onto the ice was firm and no slush or melting at the access point. RR23 was hard packed snow in the morning, a soupy, muddy mess at the end of the day.
