Really sad that the team in front of him couldn't have excelled more than 1 time.

Agreed, I know meant to be a hit to Flames but you are correct. This whole goalie swap will be kind of humorous if it works that way. Figure both starters in the first game of this seasons BOA? LOL

It was Tobias Reiders fault and we didn’t protect him,,, maybe Flames want him?

[QUOTE=Bigwoodsman;3982220]General managers and coaches don’t score goals defend or stop the puck. McLellan and Hitch are excellent coaches. Chia was a pizz poor hire. Coaches between MacTavish and McLellan were mediocre.
I want to see the team in October. What KH does this summer and at the draft.
The best part of all of this is that ownership admitted he is responsible for where the team currently sits. He’s given KH full autonomy to Maye his team better and do whatever they is needed to get to the playoffs. Tippet is part of that process.

Pretty quiet so far while other teams have been wheeling and dealing lately. Biggest problem is attracting a player to come here knowing realistically this team won’t be in playoff contention for another 3 years at least..

Pretty tough to wheel and deal when you got no money. I for sure thought or still think Leon will be dealt. You still have 100 pets for sure in McLovin, and can get big returns for him. Fill some spots, but I agree I thought more action from Oilers. Tomorrow I will be dragging a radio around all day and seeing what's happening.

Mike Smith is an Oiler. He’s is officially oilers best puck mover on the backend.

As most of you know, I'm no Oiler fan, but I'd rather have success in Alberta than not. That being said, I sure hope he's not clearing space to sign Smith and Perry.

If there’s any positives about smith it’s that he was without a doubt the best goaltender in that first round of the playoffs. If he can stay healthy and push koskinen I see this as an upgrade from what they had.
With that being said, I predict talbot talbot being in the top 5 in wins next year with Calgary now that he has a nhl caliber team in front of him.

I see smith receiving a 10 year contract with the oilers after a 4 game win streak.

I thought the idea was to improve your team during the off season. Why on earth Smith? You have a extremely unproven GT as your starter and now signed a 36 year old who is getting run out of Calgary. Who is running this place anyhow? Smith was HORRIBLE for most of the season down here.5 good games does not make a comeback... For gods sake quit it, just quit it....

Same reason Calgary is going after Talbot:
- Bobrovsky, two time Vezina winner, Oilers can't afford him;
- Lehner, Vezina finalist, Oilers can't afford him;
- Mrazek, took the 'Canes to the Eastern Final, Oilers can't afford him;
- McElhinney, a quality backup but has only hit 20 wins once in his career and he's 36, is he a reliable starter if Koskinen falters;
- Varlamov, Oilers can't afford him;
- Kinkaid, I think he may be a better alternative to Smith;
- Talbot, probably not an option;
- Ward, is he better than Smith at this point;
-etc.
Who would you realistically suggest?

Leon won't be dealt. His contract is now "bargain" status based on the year he had and some other contracts handed out lately.
Besides that it'd make about as much sense as the Flames trading Monahan.
I could see RNH getting traded sometime this year though.

If the Flames had a track record like the Oilers than I think it would make perfect sense. Get rid of value and in return fill in many spots you are lacking. Takes more than two players to make a team.

Making the playoffs and bombing in the first round is success? Lol
Trading Draisaitl would be insanity. You dont break up one of the top 2 in the NHL. You work around it. Getting rid of Leon isnt an answer. Getting rid of Lucic is.

Calgary fans thought smith hung the moon now that he signs in Edmonton he was terrible. Rough town. If anybody is counting the flames and oilers have won the same amount of cups in the last 25 years, no use the pot calling the kettle red or blue!

I really have no idea. But SMITH are you kidding me? How about Oilers start off with NOT signing the one they have now to a MONSTER contract and think a bit ahead of the curve here. Talbot has WAY WAY more of a upside than Smith and I am not sure that is the answer for the Flames. It's going to be another gong show of a season 3 hours north.

Hung the MOON?? Are you kidding me? He was burned in effigy in Olympic plaza.
He 110% crap the bed for the vast majority of the season here. I like how he plays the game, I like the passion. But he is one year older (37 now, 38 as the playoffs start) Just another usual mistake by the friendly folks who run the Oilers.
