Weather is hot and the fishing is hotter. Spent a great day there with my dad on Thursday. Caught into the double digits and quite a few big ones. The fish of the day:

Not a great pic but a big fish for sure. Quick pic was snapped and it went back in the water quick for release. We pulled up and left then around 2 p.m.

Went out this weekend and had a pretty successful weekend considering how hot it was.

We fished Friday from about 8:30 until 11 and caught six in total with no keepers.

On Saturday we caught 16 in total with 1 keeper at 78CM but we fished pretty hard from 8:30 am till 10:30pm.

Sunday was quite a bit slower but we did manage to land 6 with 1 keeper that was 80 cm.

All in all, we had a great weekend and we were glad we caught fish as we have been to Cold Lake for an entire weekend and only caught two.

No wifi but pics to come.

We were also at cold lake this weekend. Weather was hot but nice and calm. Fishing was off and on but ended up with around 45 lakers landed including 3 keepers but threw them back to keep growing. Pictures to come later.

Fished June 28 . (sunday)
The morning was really good , first Laker I landed was legal.
Around 10:30 it started to slow down.Water was like glass most of the morning.
Had a few lakers even rise out of the water around the boat.
All the lakers were nice and healthy looking.

3 Saturday night but I didn't get on the water until 9pm. 11lbs 11oz biggest
16 Sunday and 1 was 11lbs 3 oz

1 jigging my home made lures and the rest were on the downrigger

I was a great weekend although short for me. caught lots, even one heck of a sunburn.

Tip: Don't leave sunscreen in the boat all winter in the cold, it doesn't like to work after

we fished the 27-30 as first timers onto cold and very little experience with lakers. didnt get too many to the boat between the 3 of us around 20 but i lucked out on my second laker ever with a 36" at 19#.

Nice Laker Kurt.
Family and I got out on the Lake on July 9 and just hammered them early in the morning (4:30 am). Evening was just as good. Had two hook ups that just bent my 8 foot rod way past the handle while in the down rigger holder. Stopped the boat and it just took line . I normally have my drag set tight that even a legal laker can not pull any line out.....these two lakers did and both got off .
Still a few big lakers in that lake.

This smaller one did not get away.....80 cm

Very smoky in Cold lake 10:00 am Sun hardy shinning threw.

Good looking fish JR, we lost 2 big ones and landed 2 keepers that day. One was 77, one was just a hair under 80. It was smokey when we were there, but not like your picture.

Its not the smoke but the wind . we only fished 3 times in the 5 days out there.

We are heading out on the weekend of the 8 Aug. any pointers on depth and lure, research indicates 75-125' of water depending on temp and not sure on what lures to use in cold lake as this is my first go. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Holy smokes!

I've caught a lot of lake trout in my life, but I never kept any big ones for eating. I kept the one in the pic above, and when I cleaned it I also cut away all the fat and grey meat. Wow was it ever delicious. I've been given instructions from the wife to bring more of those home for supper.

I'm not sure if I'll make it out again before winter, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I had some tonight!

Fried it up like pike or walleye, 1/2 margarine, 1/2 oil, flour and spices. The key is to cut off all the fat before you cook it.

I was pretty disappointed with the one I kept last year, the texture just wasn't good at all. We tried frying it and smoking it if I remember right.

I wish you could keep the 25-28 inch range, those are probably the best eating ones.

The texture was just like a baked salmon. I like them 2-3lbs. I never measured them where I used to catch them, the limit was 5 any size. The key is to cut off all the fat, I think the fat makes the fish mushy when you fry it in it. The fat is on the inside of the batter if you leave the far on, instead of outside the batter. The trout tonight was some of the best I've ever had, the diff I used to keep was out of fly-in fishing lodges in northern Saskatchewan.

I've always candy smoked them. It's an oily meat so they are good smoked with brown sugar, honey, and maple syrup.

Mine was almost tough/stringy. It was a big female and looked older though. The males might be better eating.
