Bingo Sporty. I would also wager that 90+ % of protesters and a lot of the leaders have not clued in. Most of them just hop on the band wagon. Nobody seems to be able to speak on what they really want. The aboriginal leaders are just as political as our MPs. The troughs are full both ways.

The fact that they consider Spence an inspiration to their movement is what concerns me because she's in this for her own personal gain, has nothing to do with the original intent of the movement. Those that know the difference have distanced themselves from Spence and various chiefs and have focused on the Bill itself. Notice Spence's demands are completely off base with what the original founders of INM had originally started protesting.

Changes in this bill are already taking place and now that it has passed, there is nothing Canadians can do about it but bitch and moan when those changes begin to effect them personally.

The OPP members that did not follow thruough with the Judges order should be suspended or fired.

Think they're afraid to shoot another Indian!!!! Anytime there's conflict and police are called in there's usually a shooting. They probabaly do not want to escalate the INM protetsts by a potential shooting.

This post does not sound right. The bolded portion implies that the police are wrong in being concerned about shooting an Indian. Mb- MBR, is that what you are saying?

I think they are concerned with worldwide public perception. Harper doesn't want his name attached to scenes like those going on in Syria. How can they espouse human rights while their law enforcement and military are seen clubbing and shooting a few peaceful protesters??

No bad press thank you very much.

Peaceful protesters would not be blocking the route, they would be on the side of the route protesting.

The Police do not want to escalate the situation.
What is happening now has caused wars to break out in other nations.

I am the first one to say lets just bust some heads. But in looking at the complexity of a situation one needs to weigh all the options.
The last option is to use force in dealing with this matter. As long as they are not harming anyone then We can deal with all the other consequences.

Let us not split hairs.....I'm not seeing burning cars, destroyed storefront windows...burning cocktails...

CN can just identify the culprits and file a Civil action to recover lost earnings.....

Your not seeing destruction yet. If the police tried to stop the blocking of the roads and rails, there would be burning cars moved in the way.

I don't doubt it....and that is why they are avoiding the 'bad press'....leak some documents, discredit Spence, meet with the Chiefs....a balanced approach to dealing with a sensitive situation. In time this will all die down and go away.....

Can one wring blood from a stone Canuck? Maybe as sympathetic as you seem to be to the movement, you should consider it an honour to pay for the vandalized signals. Perhaps Spence will make you an honourary chief of the Atawapiskat reserve, replacing her live in.

No, I'm not saying they are wrong in being concerned. I think they realize these situations can turn volatile rather quickly if they try to move in and dismantle any INM protest. In my opinion any police or military intervention in any of these INM protests will ignite a firestorm across the country and thats what they're being cautious about.

Although the Ipperwash incident happened quite a few years ago, the results of that incident are still fresh in the minds of all involved, just like the Oka situation.

The grassroots INM started off good with peaceful demonstrations like flashmobs in malls, etc, and it actually gained support and raised awareness. People stopped to listen and some non-native people actually took the time to participate in the round dances. Unfortunately, the protesters that break the law by blockading bridges, railways, etc and generally cause a disruption are harming the movement IMO. You watch just how fast public sentiment towards the movement changes if things escalate. Flashmobs in malls will be met with a whole different attitude. I see it coming from a mile away and the INM has to clearly define who is and who isn't a part of the grassroots movement (ie Spence and blockades) or they will shoot themselves in the foot.

This type of comment has no place in a debate amoung adults. It is the type of thing you would here in the hallway of a junior high school. I believe Mr. Canuck's posts makes these discussions interesting. If we are all have the same prespective on a given issue, what is the point of talking about it.

If it was me standing on the tracks I would have my behind in a jail cell. Lazy OPP should do their dam jobs. Makes a person sick to there stomach that we have people blocking roads and tracks acting like terroists and nothing gets done about.

I expect the Idle No More protesters would like nothing better than to have the police roll in and start beating the hell out of them. Film footage of such an event would be world wide news. I would suggest that the best course of action would be to document who they are and what they are doing and latter lay criminal charges of mischief or whatever fits. In I addition, I would suggest that the Canadian public make it clear that blockades etc. do nothing more than harden public opinion againgst the protester's cause.
