I'd be curious how most city residents view the new events centre, we're paying half for a billionaire and a bunch of millionaires to play hockey or a billionaire is paying half for the city to get a new events centre.

Seeing a lot of, "don't want to pay, then move", "Flames should pay for their own arena" stuff again. Guess joe public, thinks the only event that takes place in these places is hockey. Flames must lock up the doors between ice times. Guess nobody has ever seen a concert, or bull riding or whatever in there. Just hockey. These places don't make the city $$, just the team profits.

Sounds like the Flames had taken on significant increased costs already and were prepared to pay all of those extra costs.

What they were not prepared to pay was the right of way costs and the climate(Solar panels) that the city wanted to add, when apparently their original negotiation the city told them not to include those costs.

Also apparently there was an out clause for either side to walk away before they broke ground. The deadline for that was December 23rd, and apparently the Flames were working with the city to get this done, or make a joint announcement on the 23rd.

Guess we see where this goes, but I can tell you this Mayor is not winning any favor with me. First she announces a climate crises, then she tries to send our city funds to Quebec to fight their laws. Then comes out an announces the end of this deal that was in the works for years before she took power.

Has she done anything worthwhile yet?
She's been taking notes from our previous mayor. Blind side the party you're negotiating with by playing bait and switch and hurry and run to the media first to cry the blues and plead your case.

We've seen this show before.

p.s. What exactly is her resume, track record and skill set for negotiating large multi million dollar deals? The folks she's trying to play games with have likely done more deals than she's had hot meals.

On this type of stuff she'd be out of her depth, even if we were just talking about pizz on a plate.

With a difference of only $14M from what I heard there's no way they won't move forward. Thats chump change on a $650M project.

Or, they'll just move to Saskatoon.

Flames ownership is made up of successful business people. City hall is made up of a bunch of minor league politicians that have zero clue particularly when it comes to financial awareness. The cost over runs for the project are going to be in the tens of millions if not more (not in the millions) and ownership see’s it coming and city hall still has their finger up their nose. Cost of borrowing $ alone is likely going double by the end of next year.

The longer Calgary waits to build this barn the more it is going to cost.

Give the Calgary Sports Entertainment group full control of the new venue, including the Stampede and any other attractions they can bring to the new arena. Also make them pay for it all. Give them a 25 no comp clause on Sports and entertainment productions within the City of Calgary. For this the CSEG must build and pay for the building absorbing the entire cost.

Finally a game day. Typically the flames do not play well after an extended break, so not sure how I am feeling about the game tonight. I guess we wait and see how they start.

Although so far this season Sutter has had them ready to play on time. Minus the first game against the Oilers.

Let's be clear

They can use whatever tax money of mine they want build this entertainment centre, I'm tired of my taxes going for things like safe injection sites, all Liberal social programs, subsidized transit , low cost housing and we all know this list is too long

I pay a good amount of taxes and nothing seem to be there for the hard working guys

You forgot battered women’s shelters, orphanages, and disabled funding.

Also forgot to mention Dustin Wolf has been called up to be the back up as Vladar is not quite ready to go. 14-0-2 down in Stockton 1.84 GAA and a .940 save %, he has definitely earned the call up.

Never heard of her.
I think the flames will break out of the slump tonight. It’s time.

And, two games in hand on that other team in 4th place, that learned to sing the Blues last night.

You also forgot to mention the Flames have the top point% in the division, the guys up the highway were not afraid to remind us of that when the Flames were atop the division with a few games in hand on the Oilers.

Flames only have one home game, vs the Jets, till the 11 January. The hope is that capacity and/or food and drink rules have been relaxed during that two week period (lots of people have Covid but, comparatively, few are in the ICU with Covid.....). With 1/2 capacity and no food/drink, it's been estimated that revenue is reduced by approx. 75% for each home game. A major hit for the owner. Could be coincidence, but if I recall correctly, the announcement the arena was cancelled came the same day the restrictions were put in place.

Sloppy finish but chipped out a win for full points.

Yeah, that was a bit of a goat rodeo in the last 4 minutes or so, but it's a regulation win! When they got the go ahead goal to make it 4-3 I didn't hardly have time to form the thought about protecting the lead before it was tied at 4. But that goal by Chuckie was pretty! And a game winner. So, good way to come back from a 2 week holiday for them. Markstrom looked a bit iffy tonight, but overall played well. And Johnny is playing like it's a contract year. And I just can't help liking what Looch brings to the team. Good way to end the year.

Yeah, last 3 minutes was kinda crazy, but a win is a win. Especially after a long break.

Really need Colmen to start finishing, he plays well, but he needs to start converting.

Was a wild finish last night for sure, Loved seeing Mang, Chucky , Johnny and Looch pop some goals. Nice to start off with a W after a break where we were losing. Get that out of the way. Healthy for now.
Love it.
On to the next one.

Neal is available for cheap. Blues put him on waivers today. Wonder who will be stupid enough to claim him.

So Flames scored 5 on 5 (twice), a pp goal, a short hander, and an empty net. It would have been awesome if Dube could have scored on the penalty shot. But another convincing road win. 2 points, and on to the next.
