This said, people often forget that a tire wears gradually in the reality of time. When a tire is brand new and the tread is very deep, it is natural to feel more flex (or sway or as you described "being on a boat" etc) as the taller tread blocks will squirm more under load, but as they slowly wear over time they don't feel the transition to them becoming less forgiving and more stable, so by the time it is time for new tires they might notice a dramatic difference between the old and new tires, especially when going to something with a very deep lug and higher sipe density.
Think of it to the extreme where they shave down race tires to a minimal tread depth, or run slicks instead of having any tread in the dry. That gives a tire the absolutely most stability when pushed to the extreme (along with a larger contact patch on the slicks). Even though it may not be as dramatic with street tires, it still is a very real effect.

Just curious, I have always thought that wear on a tire goes much faster for the first half of tread wear depth than the last half simply because of tire squirm on the taller tread. My own experience is I can get about 25,000 km on the first half and from there it takes about 50,000 more to get down close to the wear bars.

Yep totally common... The more a tread squirms around the faster it wears.

Almost all the flats are rock punctured in the tread face, never had this issue before with the older duratracs.

I wonder if this is an issue of operator over confidence in marketing claims, rather than an actual tire issue? The new Duratracs have Dupont Kevlar, they're practically bulletproof! No need to watch where you're driving now, they can take the abuse. Besides, it's a company truck after all.
The first generation Duratracs were known to be soft and easily punctured; best to drive accordingly or face the inevitable flat.

Well, I thought I'd bump a relatively recent thread. Just hung out with TireBob for a bit this afternoon and got myself some Duratrac RT's for my F150. I have had the past model of Duratracs and was really happy with them. In the snow season I run studded winter commands (from Bob) and those things are awesome on Calgary's weird temperatures and highway driving.
I'm doing a trip out to Vancouver later in the month and going to be hitting everything from the coquihalla, to logging roads, to standard highways. If I remember I'll put up some feedback on tire performance, but as of today with a total of 20km's (yes, just 20, no zero's missed) on them, I'm super stoked!
Also, in a bit of selfish plugs, if anyone has some cool Tent camping spots, or dog friendly air BnB's that they know of between Pemberton and Lillooet and Nakusp to Galena that'd be SUPER cool! For reference see my other thread:

Overdue Update
Sorry Bob should have posted a few thousand Km’s ago. I now have 18,000 on them.
I have ran the old duratracs on 2 chev 1/2 tons quad cab 4x4 for over 500,000kms. For the most part I liked them except for on ice and they were a little hard suspension wise also quite noisy.
Well these RT’s are just kickass! 😎 They are smoother/quieter on pavement, seem softer but not to the point where the sidewalls feel mushy, actually quite steady and I do drive on the aggressive fast side. On ice they performed awesome to the point on the really bad ice days I didn’t have the old white knuckles on the Deerfoot. Did not notice any change in snow or mud and I do push the limits a bit 😉.
I cannot thank Bob for getting me from what understand the first set from him.
Oh and he gave me the pointers to make sure I got the rebates as advertised👍
If anyone has any questions I will be checking back in.
Cheers
WDF

Well I've had my new Duratracs from Tirebob a while now. Drove to Brooks and back (Calgary) and spent the weekend in Banff and been driving around town on and off of Deerfoot.
I find that these tires are quieter than my first set of Duratracs but they seem nice and responsive. Have to try them out on more off road still, but I'm planning on hitting some BC logging roads in the next few weeks.
My wife even like them, so that's a plus!
Buy from Tirebob and you might get a few neat stories thrown in for a bonus!

The only major difference I found was almost $100 more expensive per tire. Already bad when have to pay $500 tire even for old Duratrac. Found old bill for 4 Duratracs for my Dodge diesel was $1200 installed.

Unfortunately that is all tires now... Inflation has been killer. I will say though, the addition of Kevlar has most certainly increased production costs as it is not a cheap material to belt tires with, but still most of the increases one sees today is inflation. The amount over the last 2 to 3 years is insane!
