When you have a council that wants administration to come up with $240M for council to redirect to their priorities and an administration on a separate initiative that comes up with $60M in cuts over 4 years, a person has to know that there are areas outside of the ones others have mentioned that can be trimmed.
Blatchford is a great big green sink hole sucking in taxpayer dollars

Hamasmontonians voted for a trudeau liberal as their mayor and marxists as their representatives in the provincial legislature. More suffering is required yet.

This incompetent politician needs to be shown the door along with every other councillor. They’re all useless as a carbon tax is to stopping climate change.

Meh, all that mattered is that Mandel got the muni scrapped and his buddies could now build taller structures downtown.

For the most part I agree with you, however Tim Carmell is pragmatic in his approach to budgets and spending. I think the COE would be much better off if he was the mayor. He has a blog on his website that I follow and I agree with the majority of what he posts about.
Unfortunately he’s the minority in city council, and until the voters do their part and vote out these useless, self-serving, idealistic, ignorant councillors, we’ll be in the same position for years to come

The council socialists went behind closed doors to see if they could find any savings from the originally proposed 6.6 % increase to the new 8.7 % gouge.
Well, no surprize, the geniuses came out and approved another .2 on top of that to end up at 8.9%.
https://globalnews.ca/news/10446251/...lation-growth/
They had to gall to say they were just protecting core services....bs.
Sohi proved that wrong with his spending justification:
“We are under a lot of pressure,” Sohi said. “We’re investing money in protecting services, we’re adding more important services like hiring more police officers, transit peace officers, social workers, building more housing, taking action on climate change, improving snow and ice, putting more money into public transit.
Edmonton will be DEAD!

Both big cities (CGY & EDM) are getting absolutely fleeced by their councils. Turning into woketopias. Maybe people will smarten up, maybe not.

Tim Cartmel voted for this budget to avoid having to go back and rework the budget from last fall. The entire city council needs to be turfed. They don’t come out and explain why they couldn’t find savings.
Put Blatchford up for sale. That property has to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The city shouldn’t act like land developers. No talk about reducing “wants” such as bike lanes.
Sohi learned from Trudeau and it’s showing everyday.
This City Council has no imagination.

I just finished leaving Cartmel a phone message. I told him he is obviously someone different than who I thought he might be. He voted in favor for this mess, there are no words to defend that ever!

Gunter is 100% correct with this article --- this group needs to be flushed
https://edmontonsun.com/opinion/colu...is-council-out
From the article it It is really too bad he did not call Sarah Hamilton out on her comment --- "Ward sipiwiyiniwak Coun. Sarah Hamilton offered a good example of what I mean about lack of budgetary imagination. She told reporters there has been a sharp increase in the cost of transit security"
The province gave the COE money for transit security and they choose to spend a nice piece of it on art work and landscaping . Perhaps if Ms Hamilton's memory is not selective it is short.

Well ya just kinda kick back and plan to move out of dodge.
Idiotic taxes etc got me out of our so called city but it was a three year plan to execute.
Burning the candle at both ends during this time was well worth it looking back.
