One word, Tubes, big 4" tubes, rig it weightless and weedless. Or get some tube jig heads

Shaky-head worm presentation on a dropshot rig. Will work better than any spoon in the situation.

check the regs....p.9.....you are allowed to use barbed hooks in the lakes, unless noted in the Regional Water-Specific Table....

I fished in the Canadian Bass anglers Association for awhile and I can tell you a lot of these ideas work well, however the only surefire way to nail big bass regularily is with a Texas Rig. Start with a medium weight bell sinker threaded on to your line point facing the rod. Then tie on a J-hook(medium sized). Then grab a Senko worm turn the hook upside down when putting the worm on. puncture it aprox half inch then pop the hook out the side and slide the punctured portion to the top of the hook where the bend is. Finish by inserting the point into the side of the worm thus making it weedlesstexas rig.jpgtexas rig2.jpg

Look at the date of the OP. This is 2 years old, so you'd be incorrect as it was illegal to use barbed hooks at the time... Who keeps bumping old threads.

Caught lots of bass at Surveyors last summer using a black mister twister tail as a leech imitation. Slow twitchy retrieve was effective

put a leach or a nightcrawler on a straight hook and a splitshot about 18 inches up from it. outfish any artificial lure 3 to 1. If there is a ridiculous amount of under 8 inch fish around this rig may catch too many smaller fish before the bigger ones have a chance to get to it. If you want to use shiners bigger is better, big smallmouth love 4 -5 inch shiners and herring. Using a jig instead of a straight hook is easier to cast but will not catch nearly as many. The natural fall of a straight hook with small weight is the trigger. You can swap the live bait for just about any powerbait that is 3 to 5 inches. Gulp leaches and 3 inch tubes are great, i like the 3 inch white powerbait twister tails. When they are slow the live bait rig is by far the best. If you want to cast artificials that arent rubber, rattle traps are very good, better than rattle raps and a meps #3 with hair will catch a pile if they are in shallows. Most of the stick baits work good too, classic silver and black is my favorite colour. If you want a challenge walk a frog colored zara spook across the water in the evening. Hard to hook em but they will go it it like crazy.
