I heard through the grape vine that they were not going to allow anyone to drive or stay over night on the ice. So no motorhomes, no trucks, no wall tents over night. Nada nothing left on the ice after 7pm.

Not suprised that it would finally come to that though. I have been out there and it is a total gong show.

I would suspect that they would make that information public prior to selling someone a ticket who has a weekend family outing trip planned and travelled a distance to get there.

I'd be pizzed if I showed up with the wife and kids and a 30' 5th wheel and had nowhere to park near the lake.

If it's blowing -30 with the windchill, which it often does there, and you can't jump in the truck or camper to warm up, there won't be nearly as many people fishing.

Might drastically reduce participation.

Not looking to debate if this is a good or bad thing but think there will be an uproar if you can't drive on.

Head out to fish Badger tomorrow. Haven't been there in 15 years....

Im going to stop in Lomond on my way home and ask about the tickets and if 5th wheel can be parked somewhere close to the lake. I Wont park it on the lake. Not my thing. If 5th wheel can't be there i wont be ether. But if the cars/and trailers have to be off the ice by 7 i don't think that is a big deal. Well not for me.

If i find something out i will post it.

Thinking that the people involed with running this function would post changes before the day of the derby. Expecially if you can't camp on ice. There are many people that travel a long way for this derby. Wonder why there website has no contact info. Would like to know forsure before taking time off work to haul the trailer down

Guess that's what I'm saying guys. There are only so many places along the lake you can "camp". On the lake there's always room. And if you've fished this derby before, the city on the ice starts forming a week before. There's not nearly enough space along the lake to accomodate all of the participant's RVs.

So the organizers should educate the participants in advance as to the rule changes cuz if they don't, there will be no more participants.

Maybe this is all heresay and the new rules are you must use barbed hooks. I dunno.

Are those Vacant lots next to the campground open to RVR's ?

This Derby seems like a hassle with all of the Whiners that can't park there house on wheels on the lake.

To much hassle for me, I am out.

Well Mutter I dont think any one will miss you. LOL. But if your like me and have been bring your trailer on the ice for the last 10 years, and bring kids. it nice to have home close. its not just about fishing its about spending time with friends and family fishing.
just my two cents.

Quite sure if people weren't allowed to camp on the ice they would post that on the website. Seems like a major thing to not inform people about. If need be pull your unit into lomond. It's only a 5-10 min drive.

If you read the back of the ticket, it says you can only fish on the west side of the lake.

I didn't find anything more about the derby today other then i got my ticket and its number is in the mid 300,s from the hotel/bar ticket book.

We fished north west corner today from 9-12. Nothing on cam or tip ups. Moved spots and had one on and lost it before we could get the first tip up set. Then sat for an hr. Saw two on the cam. One little and one lunker. Got the little one then 15 min later got the big one on. The fight was on and hand him to the top of the whole side ways......and then it became one of those famous fish stores, the big one got away snaped line... Im sure every one on the lake heard us yell NOOOOOOOOO. We did land two small ones. Was a good day out there today. About 20 inch of ice . Ice was melting and water sitting on top today. Truck said +8. Good thing i brought the sled out. So much snow there. LOL

Cheers

Default Slow Day

It was a slow day for sure but we did manage to land one decent fish out of the two bites we had all day.

Default Badger Pike

I forgot to mention it was 42" long 23 lbs. We took pics of it then released it back into badger.

I do have one question about the derby. Are the scales sanctioned by the govt? I was thinking if a person catches a record pike would the govt recognize it?

We were out there yesterday about halfway down the dam. One of the auger blades fell off after we drilled a few holes. So we had to make due with the holes we had. Crappy part was that those holes were only drilled to check depth. But we made the most out what we had and all in all had a pretty good day. Nothing terribly big, but did manage a nice burbot, landed several alright pike and missed quite a few. Crazy thing is we missed several just trying to get to the holes, they were only about 20feet apart, but even with cleats it was slick.
