No I use a rifle, running them over with the boat is just way too challenging

Yeah I guess you're right, I don't even think Relic from the beachcombers could get one, and he could jump a jetboat better than anyone in the seventies.

I was with an outfitter north of Mckensie in a jet boat going down river just before dark. He was explaining how you have to gun it going around the bends to keep it straight, very next bend had a log sticking out just above the water, we are hit the deck and the windshield was ripped off. We were lucky. I would suggest larger rivers that you know to start with and leave Relic to the tv shows.

Yeah, it's been an awesome boat. I was by myself when I got the elk, big lead cow. Bit of a job getting her in the boat, but nothing a comealong and determination couldn't do. Me and my camping gear and hunting gear and the elk and spare fuel and a spare battery and she jumped up on step no prob and headed home quick before the day got too hot. Thanks again for the advice and for sharing experience from maintenance and running it.
I can't wait for spring and to get on the river again.

Depending on the hull design you do not need to keep the throttle on to steer
a jet, but seeing how every boat steers differently , a person really needs to learn how to control their individual boat.
I steer mine like a dirt bike when I'm working it hard, using the steering wheel steering and the throttle together .
I can turn and stop stop mine on a dime and give you change!

Skinny did you launch at peers? That's where we did this summer. There was a few times we barely had enough momentum to get over the gravel bars.
How far could you make it up the berland?

Wow Skinny D that was a cool trip on the Upper Red Deer, something i have never done is Jet Boat a River.
However I did do a Trip on a 19' Jet ,along for the ride looking for Coastal Grizzly with a Good friend from BC That has hunted this area many times.
It rained pretty much non stop and the Salmon run never showed up so No Bear was harvested on the trip but we Did see 3 and they were very Dark, almost Black. We lived on that Boat..Used it as a water taxi, slept in it, glassed out of it and putted down the Kwatna River keeping an eye out For Bears in the Lush Rain Forest of Coastal British Columbia.
Anyway heres some pics for your inspiration Steve of just another Place Jet Boats can access.
K-Bay in the distance at about 8:30 am.
Organizing our Gear.
Oh Oh the Tide went out....Marooned for a few hours.
Making Lunch on the hood .
Check out the vegetation here...we spend the day and an evening on this sandbar that had a feeder spring running into it watching for Bears and glassing the Mountains behind us that had Mountain Goats that I am sure will never be hunted due to their location above the thick forest and steep mountain banks.
Where the Fresh water starts to run into salt water along the tidal Flats.
Where we saw Bears.....
The trip in and out along the Chuck was pretty rough and we also worked against tide tables etc . It was a Beautiful area and all salt water was surrounded by Thick Green , Steep Mountains. The stories Steve told me about the West Coast Natives that lived here, their burial area on an Island as well as the Clayton Mack Sasquatch stories of this area and the Massive Bears that have been seen and Harvested here sure made for Memorable hunt.

Most are aluminum, some have a steel hull but they are really heavy for a little boat.
many also have a Petex styel of hull out liner.
Most however, are 6061 aluminum or other high tensile strength aluminum.
Mine has a 1/4" hull, with a 3/8" belly pad of 6061 that runs the length of it f.
That poad is 16" wide, so I tey to run up on a rck ledge right on center if i can.
My hull is only 5 degress BTW.

As jet boats and "sea-dos" become more popular on our rivers and streams there will have to be some regulation and restrictions to their use.
It has to happen as it does with all our mechanized outdoor "recreation".

Hopefully I will have it in the next 2-3 weeks so I can do the rigging in time for open water.

Not sure of the name of the launch but it's the closest access point to the mouth of the Berland from the Athabasca accessed from goat trails from the ANC road.
I made it up there on several occasions and the furthest was very close to the spot where the Willow Creek road crosses it North of Hinton.

Ya Darren it sure would be a hunt of a lifetime to hold a tag for there. Pictures that i take anyway don't do it justice, the whole experience of being on the Wet Coast and the animals that live there was incredible to see. I have videotape of us putting down the river that felt like it was the amazon or something.
