Gotta wonder how many people walk out of there with the wrong stuff

I very rarely ever go to the gun counters in the big box stores anymore, so I don't hear much of this kind of nonsense anymore. I actually kind of miss the entertainment.

I went into Wholesale Sports a few years back and asked for a pound of Alliant 2400 powder, which is, and has been the most popular powder for .44 magnum reloading for many years.
The kid at the counter walks away and heads upstairs or wherever to fetch it.
After a while he comes back and says that they have none and don't stock it because nobody uses it any more.
So, I bought a pound at P&D.

I was in the professional Bassy store last year. Asked to see a Blackpowder Hawken Percussion Cap muzzleloader kit. Was mildly interested in putting one together from a kit. The guy asked for my Firearms Licence, OK I produced it. I was told by that young fellow behind the counter that was younger than my sox and I swear had a milk mustache that my Non-Restricted Possession & Acquisition was absolutely no good and I needed a Restricted Firearms Licence to be able to view the kit. Like it was some fully auto black arm. Sheesh....

Had a guy tell me that he was going to neck a 243 down to 6mm as they make astounding benchrest cartridges.

Still very much as popular as .30-06 with just about every maker.
I checked Bass Pro. Every rifle that offered standard cartridges like .30-06 and .243 also offered .270.
Even if the rifle was only available in a few cartridges, .270 Winch was one of them. (,30-06, .308. .243, and .270)

Cabelas Windemere - gun library: a kid walks in telling his dad how there's this sniper rifle with a silencer in there.
South Common WSS - archery counter: young kid behind the counter saying he only takes neck shots with his bow because there's a 3" vital zone

Many people that own Axis rifles, are not 1/2moa shooters.

I have heard/seen things in the last 9 years that would freak out most people on this forum. I've had a guy bring a Glock 17 in for consignment with the case unlocked. I opened the case to find a fully loaded gun with a round in the chamber, no trigger lock and 4 extra mags full of ammo.
I had a guy spend $9500 on guns/ammo/gear 3 days before December 12th 2012 (literally prepping for the end of the world) and then bring it all back for a return 4 days later.
My favourite gun shop horror story is the guy who brought in his 308 he was having issues with just this past February. He reported that for the last 10 years he has had light primer strikes occasionally and 3-4 of 10 trigger pulls would result in a discharge. The rest of the time nothing happened. After hearing the story I opened his gun case and saw his old, beat up Mauser style action firearm with the words .308 Norma Magnum engraved on the receiver. The guy spent 10 years shooting 7.62x51mm out of a 7.61x65mm firearm.
I think I'll start posting the sh!t that goes on at the shop in this thread, I didn't realize this thread was here, this thread is incredible.

I only worked at,a gun counter for a year
I only worked at a gun counter for a little less than a year but there where some hilarious questions. I'm sure some people misunderstood things I said and thought I was an idiot as well.
One of my pet peeves was guys buying lever actions then putting scopes on them. It seems almost sacrilegious. That being said my aging father "ruined" a beautiful 1960's lever action by drilling a tapping it for scope mounts.

I asked for some low scope rings and the guy behind the counter said that if I go too low it would affect my shooting blah blah blah.... Then i took a look at him and he had a wandering eye. One was looking up and the other sorta to the side. Needless to say I took his advice with a grain of salt.

Had a guy bragging the other day about the greatness of his 300 WM. He had no clue what ammo he uses but told me it killed a 6x6 bull at 500-600 yards last year. Shot it right thru the heart! Exactly where he wanted the bullet to go.
I asked how he knew where to aim if he didn't know the range. He stammered it was somewhere between 4-500 yards.
He then told us how he killed a whitetail at over 400 last year too. He thought the bullet should drop so he held on its back. He was pretty happy with the ballistics since he's perfectly zeroed at 200 and the bullet hit right where he aimed. "Name another cartridge thatl'l do that!" he told me. Lol

With a little time, and some facts about the trajectory of the load, you could probably have had him down to 300 to 400 yards with the first claim.
A laserr rangefinder usually ruins a good story about as fast as a chronograph does.

They usually have a flat rate, $15-25 from my experience.

My aunt and uncle got me to sight in there 270 axis. Don't have the target anymore but I put 3 in the bull really really tight. Novice shooter too. And was ****ed off it did better than my tikka 270. Before i handloaded. And this was all using the federal blue ammo.
They don't take care of there guns really like us so that axis is wrecked now I think ( maybe the scope since it's def cheap )
But ya. It WAS a great shooter.

Last order for 3 boxes of bergers and a set of dies was $21 shipping and $70 a box instead of $108 lol still pricy but appropriate inflation due to the dollar not flat out gouging

Was at Wholesale Sports the other day... One chap behind the counter was helping a (obviously "newer" shooter) pick out a big-game rifle;
customer - " I'd like that gun, but in .270."
clerk - " 270 is ok for deer under 200yds away, but I'd recommend a 300 Win-mag for moose or elk over 200."
