I can insure my truck for $900 a year, basic coverage.

and how much does the supplemental insurance cost to cover the lagging PL & PD?

They just went through a royalty review if you don't recall.

No, my history involves posting a list of factual or interesting issues.
Your welcome to your own opinions, but not your made up facts.
You bet the issues you outlined are real. They are real for every jurisdiction were oil is extracted. After judging those facts, perhaps the outcome is stay the course, and perhaps it is to revise rates.
I don't know that answer, but I have no problem asking the question.
Why would you NOT ask? The last review was done in Stelmach's time. How long and how many premiers ago was that?
Eight years ago is the answer. There is nothing wrong with taking a look at it again at this time.

Business is a lot like farmers. They cry poor at every turn and bitch and whine and moan about everything. Trick is knowing when they are telling the truth and when....maybe not so much. If business was willing to play straight and bargain in good faith it'd be far easier to reach reasonable compromise. But businesses mandate is to push push push and if they bleed ya push some more.
I'm confident Notley knows the game having been a union negotiator. If she can balance that with a reasonable business knowledge and willingness to have a dialogue with business and weigh the real numbers then it should work out fine. Nope it will NOT be perfect. Only a simpleton would think any gov't is going to lead to a wonderful utopia. Or a pull a system out of 7 billion in debt with no tax increases LOL

I think she's busy coming up with a REAL platform. Probably looking through the PC garbage cans for some ideas.

It was hardly the result of leftist policy. Banks were tripping over themselves finding ways to manipulate appraisals and misrepresent mortgage terms to collect fees and get people locked into mortgages they knew they couldn't afford. Then they packaged all the crumby debt into credit default swaps which where then underwritten by other capitalists that had no capital to cover the guarantees but as long as things didn't crash they made out like bandits on fees. Then when things went tits up they just walked and left tax payers holding the bag. Blackheart you don't have a frickin' clue. Faux news is not factual, I repeat Faux news is not factual.

Certainly. Good news is that probably you and bunch of other, regular members here are safe too. Albertans tend to respect work. They work long and hard. Not sure if spending 10 hours a day, every day on the Internet forum, crying out loud about things you have no influence over qualifies as such.

No she will work with them as it should be and everyone has been crying about. Funny how when someone suggest a constructive direction you make an azz hat comment. Funnier still that YOU are the one that's been suggesting we have to bend over in offering to oil companies and that to do otherwise will be the end of the world. How's the view between your legs? haaaaaaaaaaaaaahaha. Hillarious.
No counter to my facts eh. Yeah that was never a right wingnut strong point. I feel for ya.

After all, this is a declining asset, and we only have so much time to extract it. Albertans need to benefit as much as possible without killing industry. Industry deserves a fair return in investment, as do Albertans.
I support a royalty review based on the above.
|
You think you have an educated opinion on royalties yet have no idea how they are calculated. Fact.
Maybe you don't really care how they work, but you just want more. More from your government. However you can get it. Entitlement at its finest.
You think that reviewing them every 8 years is prudent. Fact.
Even though companies/shareholders have to make investment decisions based on billion dollar projects with economic lives of up to 30 years.

Anyways.
Here is a government that needs more. More revenue. Yet the easy way is just to raise taxes and royalties. Push it down on the people and corporations. Quick fix brought to you by the ndp and avb.
The same ndp groups also are against oil and gas pipelines.
Whereas in 2013, an estimated 20 billion dollars was lost by energy companies due to high oil price differentials. Essentially, because there is a lack of market diversity for crude, we get paid what the americans want to pay, minus transportation on stretched capacity oil pipelines. No choice. Or put it on a train.
Why wouldn't the govt invest in pipelines as a way to add value to the oil revenue, thus creating more revenue to themselves via royalty volumes and corp taxes??
I'll tell you why. Because historically govts are run by people who, although they maybe great people, have absolutely no business sense or desire to learn any.
Tax away. Rather than add value to this economy.
Case in point. AIMCO.
Quote:
Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) is one of Canada's largest and most diversified institutional investment fund managers, with an investment portfolio of approximately $75 billion. Headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, AIMCo manages the assets of 27 clients, a diverse set of public sector pensions, endowments and government funds. Alberta Investment Management Corporation is responsible for the management of the assets of the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund (AHSTF),[4] which was created in 1976 by Premier Peter Lougheed[5]:10 by the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund Act with three objectives, "to save for the future, to strengthen or diversify the economy, and to improve the quality of life of Albertans.[6]
|
This is the govt's heritage fund in action.
Not one single investment in oil and gas pipelines in Alberta/Canada. They would rather own a highway in Chile than improve the business that created the fund in the first place. Why? Because even though what we have is the eny of the world, some think the grass is greener. Go live in Chile.
