X2, although I wouldn’t say they are junk I think they are a good youth rifle that they can outgrow and upgrade to their “forever rifle” once they are close to being full grown. For an adult however I’d suggest starting out with your “forever gun”, maybe grab a cheap axis in a smaller caliber for varmint Hunting in the future.
I can’t think of a rifle with better value than the Tikka T3 Lite, one of the smoothest bolt actions on the market and extremely accurate out of the box. As time goes by you can upgrade the trigger guard and bolt shroud for about $200, then you can even look into a carbon fiber stock if your feeling rich one day. I would recommend you get it in stainless though, beleive it or not, stainless steel is actually more slippery than chromoly and you will gain a few FPS with a stainless barrel. At least that’s what I was told by Melvin Forbes.
