We need to get involved as a society and put a stop to crime
So is this the cirme fighting society of alberta which you speak of ...WOW i cant beleive some of you guys,,,first of all it goes from a guy wanting to clean a carpet to a annoying suspiscious guy that smells selling vacums!!! so which one was it, im kind of lost here???? But dont get me wrong iam not against protecting my family (me and my pinchers)...I just think you guys are blowing this way out of proportion here...if you can afford to buy the gas to follow him around and to drive 180km/hr and take the longggg way home (to make sure noone was following YOU since this is sooooooo wrong) but you already know thats wrong right, then buy two big ass pinchers and let them roam around the house at night. Beleive me nothing will get by them and they are like "stealths" they sneek right up behind you when your least exspceting it...... just ask the guy who was so quiet breaking in the back of the house when i was at work, when i got home they had him pinned in the corner in the kitchen and he was BEGGING me to call the police...

I had gohovo witnesses coming to my house twice a day, and finally got sick of it so i started answering the door in my underwear and they stopped simple as that, but make sure its a bnanana hammock your wearing and they DEFINATELY wont be back JUST MY OPINION SO DONT GO TELLING THE MODS ON ME AGAIN CAUSE I SEEM TO GET INTO TROUBLE FOR STATING MY OPINION

Nowhere did the OP claim to drive 180 km/h. The OP said that the other driver took off at around 180 km/h. Quote:

Maybe it wasn't exactly 180 km/h, maybe just an educated guess. You're putting words in the OP's mouth and making an assumption that he must have done the same speed to know how fast the other van was going.

I've also followed people, whether because they are acting drunk or just stupid and called the cops. On one occasion, it was a drunk driver. On another occasion, it turned out to be someone who was running after hours booze or drugs. They had stopped at another person's garage, briefly during my following and the cops postulated that the guy had dumped whatever he was running. I also took the long route home. Who cares? So I paid an extra $5 in gas that day. It's my choice where I spend my money, isn't it?

That made little sense, but I'm assuming you're advocating buying a big dog that can sneak up and terrorize the thief. If that's what you do and it works for you, great. Not everybody wants a big dog walking around, though. Everybody has their own methods of protecting themselves and their family and nobody has any right to judge another's method.

I think everyone here needs to relax off the OP and each other. The OP saw something "suspicious", which is:

Quote:
sus·pi·cious

ADJECTIVE:
Arousing or apt to arouse suspicion; questionable: suspicious behavior.
So a person's actions caused him to question the other person's intent. What's the big deal? Wasn't anybody ever told "better safe than sorry"? If he wants to follow a person around and call the cops, who are we to judge why he did it? The cops didn't tell him to go home, so there must have been some validity to his story. They just had a higher priority call and couldn't answer his, just yet.

It's not a big secret that people lie, these days. It is reasonable to second guess another person's story. The OP was reasonable in following, but not intervening against, the other person. The OP was reasonable in calling the cops and asking them to question the other person's story. So what's the big deal?

You might want to check out "More Guns, Less Crime" by John Lott. I don't know what statistics you were looking at that told you that crimes per capita were higher here than in the US, but I'd be interested in seeing them. Keep in mind, too, that a few of the large US centers have similar firearms laws to Canada. Most of California state (population ~37,000,000), NY state (~19,500,000), Washington, DC (~5,300,000) and greater Chicago, IL (~10,000,000) have very restrictive firearms laws and their statistics are mixed into a US federal crime statistic. With a federal population of ~308,000,000, that combined total of 71,800,000 is 23% of the total population. That's plenty to sway statistics one way or another.

Stats Canada claims that crime is going down in Canada, although it doesn't give a comparison to the United States.

According to Nation Master, the US is up in murders and overall crime rate, however is down in comparison to Canada, in break and enters.

However, as hal pointed out, if most Canadians don't report crimes, then these stats are a moot point.

Jaylow you are obviously a coward that would rather draw the curtains then help a neighbour / Friend out...hate to see what you would do if you came across an accident or a victim of crime. IF you can pass a CPIC clearance I am willing to take you into a place full of people that prey on innocent people. Please PM and I promise you before you go to bed at night you will double check the lock on your front door.

i guess i should become dillusional and paranoid. ill obsess about who i dont know and make it a point to push myself into the lives of people i dont know and who dont know me. at that point i guess i can call myself a real man.

nice to call a guy a coward from your computer bud. the good thing about being an internet tough guy is never having to actually confront the person.
its safer that way.....now go lock your doors. there coming for you.
