Again, this appears to be geographically and species biased.

I know most of the places I fish in July-August are not subject to high water temps or low oxygen levels.

I don't see the harm in taking a quick measurement and picture in any season, as long as its done quickly and with care. I just don't think that recommendation applies to a derby of this type.

I don't see the harm. We all take pics of our prized catches all summer long, another moment for a measurement can't be that harmful.
